Whether you’re looking to make your way to a one-of-a-kind Day of the Dead art show, or enjoy family-friendly activities there are plenty of parties to let loose at for Dia de los Muertos in Houston.
Day of the Dead 2019 Celebrations Around Houston
- 2019 KBR Kids Day at Guadalupe Plaza Park | Saturday, October 12 | FREE – Treat the kids to a fun-filled day of hands-on activities during the twelfth annual KBR Kids Day at Guadalupe Plaza Park. In partnership with 20 non-profit organizations, the event will offer pontoon boat tours, local entertainment and performers, Dia de los Muertos face painters, balloon artists, a rock-climbing wall, and a Halloween parade. 11am to 3pm.
- Dia de los Muertos at Market Square Park | Saturday, October 12 | FREE – Market Square Park hosts a block party to celebrate Dia de los Muertos, aka Day of the Dead. Learn more about the significance of this day through art installations and community activities and enjoy live music, food, and vendors. 6pm.
- Dia de los Muertos Fall Festival at Guadalupe Plaza Park | Friday, October 25 to Sunday, October 27 | FREE – The 3-day Dia de los Muertos Fall Festival will feature an arts market, an exhibition, food trucks, activities for the kids, face painting, live performances and more. Times vary.
- Dia de los Muertos Procession and Celebration at Casa Ramirez FolkArt Gallery | Saturday, October 26 | FREE – In celebration of ancestors and loved ones, Casa Ramirez FolkArt Gallery hosts a Dia de los Muertos event with altar displays, a performance and procession led by Danza Azteca Taxcayolotl, music by Jesus and Maria Lozano-Bossa ll and more. 5pm to 8pm.
- Dia de los Muertos Celebration at Kemah Boardwalk | Sunday, October 27 | FREE – Celebrate the Day of the Dead with activities for the kiddos including cultural dance performances, a mariachi band, and a kids corner at Kemah Boardwalk. 2pm to 10pm.
- Dia de los Muertos Festival at MECA Houston | Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3 | FREE – MECA Houston hosts their annual Día de los Muertos Festival: Honoring our Past, Celebrating Our Future. Recognizing the differences in Latin celebrations of Dia de Los Muertos, this event focuses on the common theme of honoring family and friends. Expect music, dance, theater, food, and visual arts from different Latin American countries at MECA’s nationally recognized historic Dow School in the Sixth Ward. 11am to 7pm.
- Dia de los Muertos Celebration at National Museum of Funeral History | Saturday, November 2 – Celebrate Latin American customs that surround the Day of the Dead with fun, interactive, and commemorative activities at the National Museum of Funeral History. The National Museum of Funeral History hosts a Dia de los Muertos celebration with activities that commemorate the lives of those who have passed. This event is free and does not include general admission to the museum. 11am to 2pm.
- Dia de los Muertos at Navigation Esplanade | Saturday, November 2 | FREE – Head to the East End for a celebration of life and family featuring arts, traditions, foods, and culture at Navigation Esplanade. Noon to 9pm.
- Dia de los Muertos at Hidalgo Park | Saturday, November 2 | FREE – Celebrate the historic Latino neighborhood of Magnolia Park at the 6th annual Dia de los Muertos event in Hidalgo Park. Expect live music, cultural performances, traditional altar building, art, food and more. Noon to 7pm.
- Dia de los Muertos in The Heights | Saturday, November 2 | FREE – Experience the rich culture and significance of Dia de los Muertos with interactive exhibits and performances at Montie Beach Park in The Heights. Noon to 8pm.
- Dia de los Muertos Party at The Barking Pig | Saturday, November 2 – Make your way over to The Barking Pig in The Heights for a day of face painting, live music, a buffet and more in celebration of the Day of the Dead. Tickets are $20.99 for drinks; $29.99 for food and drinks. 7pm to 10pm.
