• SPA presents Dr. Zahi Hawass: Ramses the Great & the Gold of the Pharaohs at Jones Hall | Monday, January 10 − Hear from Egyptian archaeologist and former Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs as he untangle truth from the myth and discusses the life, death, and conquests the renowned charismatic pharaoh. $40. 7:30pm.
• Houston Rockets vs. Philadelphia 76ers at Toyota Center | Monday, January 10 – Moved up in the schedule from its original date later this month, the Rockets face off against the Sixers in Downtown. $15 to more than $1,000, but you may find better or cheaper seats on the online marketplace. 7pm.
• DaCamera presents Etienne Charles’ Creole Soul at Wortham Theater Center | Friday, January 14 – Making a Houston debut, jazz trumpeter Etienne Charles and his band, Creole Soul, take the Wortham Center stage to perform their distinctive version of modern jazz. $37.50 and up. 8pm.
• Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince in Concert at Jones Hall | Friday, January 14 to Sunday, January 16 – Houston Symphony transports audiences to the magical world of Hogwarts as they take on the moving scores of the 2009 film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. $34 to $134. • 13th Annual Yaga’s Chili Quest & Beer Fest on the Strand | Saturday, January 15 − After down-sizing for 2021, Yaga’s popular, early-year chili and beer tasting festival returns to Galveston’s Stand in its tastiest form. It kicks off with the Beerfooter 5K Fun Run along the beach, followed by the day’s main event. $12. 10am to 6pm.
• 26th Annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration at Children’s Museum Houston  Saturday, January 15 – Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with messages of unity, justice, and peace at Children’s Museum Houston. This year’s celebration includes a jazz ensemble performance, peace march, awards ceremony, and an all-day display of the “I Have a Dream” speech. $5 per person. 11am to 2pm.
• Fort Bend Home & Garden Show at Fort Bend County Fairgrounds | Saturday & Sunday − Plan your next home and plant projects at the two-day home and garden show in Fort Bend. In addition to vendors doling out goods in home improvement, decorating and interior design, landscapes and more, the Winter Gift Market will also offer up gifts alongside wine and food samples. $7; free for ages 12 and under. • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrations Around Houston | Starts Saturday, January 15 | Many FREE − Celebrate and honor Dr. King with events, virtual presentations, and more leading up to the holiday itself next Monday. Dates, locations, and times vary.
• Betty White 100th Birthday Celebrations & Tributes Around Houston | Starts Saturday, January 15 | No Cover − Also leading up to the recently departed television icon’s 100th b-day on Monday, January 17, bars and breweries in central Houston are holding special celebrations featuring Betty White’s favorites—hot dogs, French fries, vodka, donations to local animal nonprofits, and more. Dates, locations, and times vary.
• 50th Annual Chevron Houston Marathon in Downtown | Sunday, January 16 | FREE to Watch – Though you might not be able to lace up for Houston’s signature run event, you can still celebrate the runners as they pound pavement from Downtown through the city’s districts like Montrose, Medical Center, the Galleria, Memorial Park, and back again to finish at Avenida de las Americas. • Hop Topic World’s Annual Chili Cook-Off at Holler Brewing Co.
