Top 9 Things to Do with Kids This Week in Houston

  • Music and Movement Class at Heights Public Library | Tuesday, August 21 | FREE – Make music with your little ones at the Heights Public Library. This class will include singing, dancing, instrument play, rhythm and tonal development. 10:30am to 11am.
  • Coco Movie Screening at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Tuesday, August 21 | FREE – Watch an outdoor screening of the beloved Pixar movie, Coco, about a boy who journeys into the Land of the Dead to seek forgiveness from his ancestors and lift a curse. 8pm to 11pm.
  • Circus Night featuring Cirque La Vie at Memorial City | Thursday, August 23 | FREE – Be amazed and delighted by Houston’s premier circus group, Cirque La Vie with their high-flying, spectacular family-friendly performance at Memorial City. 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
  • Live After 5: Lil Nathan, Pokey, Step Rideau & Jack Freeman in Concert at Jones Plaza | Friday, August 24 | FREE – Live After Five wraps up for 2018 with an August edition fearing a showcase of R&B and zydeco musical acts. The lineup features Pokey, Lil Nathan & The Zydeco Big Timers, Step Rideau & the Zydeco Outlaws, and Jack Freeman. There will be games and giveaways, plus food by the Kid Kreole Kooking food truck and more. 5pm to 10pm.
  • 32nd Annual AIA Sandcastle Competition on Galveston Island’s East Beach | Saturday, August 25 – More than 60 teams will compete for the prestigious Golden Bucket Award at the 32nd edition of the AIA Sandcastle Competition. Following months of planning, teams stretch out along the beach front and meticulously sculpt their piles of sand and work non-stop for five hours. Included with beach admission. 10am to 4:30pm.
  • Houston Astros Children’s Activities at Children’s Museum of Houston | Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26 – Show your support for the World Series Champions when the Children’s Museum of Houston hosts Houston Astros Children’s Activities. Throughout the month of August, you can save $2 on tickets by bringing your Houston Astros game ticket stub from any game in July or August. Those who wear any Astros related stuff will also receive $2 off admission, now through August 31, 2018. Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday noon to 6pm.
  • Houston Food Truck Festival | Sunday, August 26 | FREE – Bring your friends and family out to the Houston Food Truck Festival and enjoy over 10 food trucks, live music, a kids zone, a car show and more. 11am to 7pm.
  • Theater District Open House in Downtown | Sunday, August 26 | FREE – Go behind-the-scenes with Theater District Houston’s performing arts organizations at the free, family-friendly Theater District Open House. The 25th Annual TransCanada Theater District Open House is an annual family-friendly festival for avid supporters of the arts and newcomers of all ages. Noon to 5pm.
  • The Greatest Love: A Tribute to Whitney Houston at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Sunday, August 26 | FREE – Relive the magic and the voice of the iconic Whitney Houston in The Greatest Love: A Tribute to Whitney Houston at Miller Outdoor Theatre. 8pm.
