Top 14 Things to Do with Kids This Week in Houston

  • Houstonia’s 5th Annual Burger Bash at The Plaza at CityCentre | Thursday, November 7 – The 5th annual Burger Bash pits a dozen of the city’s top restaurants and chefs in a head-to-head battle for the Best Burger. Guests can enjoy sliders, cars on display from Land Rover West Houston, live entertainment, and a huge raffle benefiting Kids’ Meals, Inc. Tickets are $35 with two drink tickets; $17 for ages 12 to 20. 6pm to 9pm.
  • Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Musical Play at Repertory Theatre | Starts Wednesday, November 6 – Stages Repertory Theatre presents a live musical radio play production of the Christmas classic, Miracle on 34th Street, on its Arena Theater stage in Montrose. Get into the holiday spirit with the classic story of the last-minute replacement Santa for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade—who claims to be the real Kris Kringle. The all-ages show runs for two hours, with a break for intermission. Tickets range from $25 to $65, but a limited number of $40 seats are discounted to $22.50 for select shows. Showtimes vary.
  • Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Movie Screening in Concert at Jones Hall | Thursday, November 7 to Sunday, November 10 – Feel the force at an epic showing of The Empire Strikes Back, the second installment of the original Star Wars trilogy, accompanied by a live performance of John Williams’ masterful score by the Houston Symphony. Tickets start at $34, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s resale site. Showtimes vary.
  • 24th Annual Children’s Festival at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9 – Entertain the kids at the 24th Annual Children’s Festival, which features a meet and greet with Thomas & Friends, arts and crafts, zip lines, rock climbing, science experiments, parachute races, live entertainment and more. Admission Tickets are $10. Times vary.
  • Night Market 2019 at Asia Society Center of Texas | Friday, November 8 | FREE – Spend Friday evening at Asia Society Center of Texas’ annual Night Market, which offers after-hours access to two exhibitions; live music; a Japanese-style carnival; a curated selection of food, home goods, art, and apparel from local artisans; and a ticketed beer garden with tasty bites. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Opry on the Square at Sugar Land Town Square | Friday, November 8 | FREE – Sugar Land Town Square presents live music from Country Now and Then, featuring country favorites that will appeal to all generations of country music fans. Even the littlest country fans will have a boot scooting time dancing around. 7:30pm to 9pm.
  • 66th Annual HGMS Gem, Mineral, Jewelry & Fossil Show at Humble Civic Center | Friday, November 8 to Sunday, November 10 – Feast your eyes and mind on earthly treasures and mind-challenging demonstrations at the 66th Annual HGMS Gem, Mineral, Jewelry & Fossil Show at the Humble Civic Center. Eager-to-learn attendees will find plenty to engage themselves such as a wide array of educational exhibitions and demonstrations that include lessons on jewelry making, beading, and more. Tickets are $8 at the door and good for all 3 days; ages 10 and under (accompanied by an adult) are free. Times vary.
  • Aviation Merit Badge Workshop at Lone Star Flight Museum | Saturday, November 9 – The Lone Star Flight Museum offers a workshop to earn the Scout Aviation Merit Badge. The three-hour workshop provides a hands-on learning experience including fundamentals of flight, aircraft design, model building, preflight inspection, and piloting the flight simulators. This badge class is for Scouts ages 11 to 17. $30 per scout. 9am to noon.
  • Shop the Arabian Bazaar at the Arab-American Cultural & Community Center | Saturday, November 9 | FREE – The first-time event will feature local, Arab-owned businesses showcasing their products to Houstonians, including local food trucks serving up tasty food and desserts. 10am to 6pm.
  • Islamic Arts Festival at Masjid Al Salam in Spring | Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10 | FREE – The largest and oldest festival of its kind in North America, the Islamic Arts Festival will feature more than 10,000 square feet of Islamic art created by more than 40 artists, along with works from emerging artists and students. Interactive sessions will be offered on calligraphy, henna tattoo, Ebru, painting, Arabesque pattern coloring and more. There will also be children’s activities, halal food trucks and more. 10:30am to 5:30pm both days.
  • Blackwood Harvest Hoedown at Blackwood Educational Land Institute | Saturday, November 9 – Celebrate the land and food of Gulf Coast communities at the 2nd annual Blackwood Harvest Hoedown, an immersive farm experience, at Blackwood Educational Land Institute. Featuring a curated variety of local farmers, artisans, and vendors this festival will have something for people of all ages. Expect arts and crafts activities, live music, a line-up of speakers, a bier garten, a kids zone, and plenty of delicious local food. Tickets are $15; $5 for ages 5 to 15; free for ages 5 and under. 11am to 6pm.
  • Bellaire Arts & Crafts Festival at Evelyn Park | Saturday, November 9 | FREE – Shop for unique items with your friends and family at the City of Bellaire’s Arts & Craft Festival at Evelyn’s Park. Just in time for the holidays, the festival will feature vendors and exhibitors showcasing and selling original art, artisan wares, and custom-made goods. Stroll through the aisles and browse items like ceramics, jewelry, woodwork and more. 11am to 5pm.
  • Houston Filipino Street Festival at Constellation Field | Saturday, November 9 – The Filipino Young Professionals of Houston presents the Houston Filipino Street Festival at Constellation Field, showcasing the food, culture, heartwarming hospitality, and history of the Philippines. There will be vendors, live entertainment, food, family activity, music and more. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door; ages 7 and under get in free.
  • Ralph Breaks the Internet Movie Screening at Sugar Land Town Square | Saturday, November 9 | FREE – Bring the kids to a free movie this Saturday night, as First Colony Church of Christ presents a screening of Ralph Breaks The Internet in Sugar Land Town Square. Ralph and Vanellope put their friendship to the test as they travel to all corners of the internet in this PG-rated movie. 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
