Top 10 Things to Do with Kids This Week in Houston

  • Chinese for Everyone Summer Camp at Northland Christian School | Monday, June 17 to Friday, June 21 – Set the kids up for success at a week-long camp where they will learn Chinese and experience China in Houston. The group combines aspects from both American and Chinese education with teachers who grew up in here in Houston and in Harbin, China. Kindergartners through fifth graders are welcome. $200. 9am to 4pm daily.
  • Candytopia at Marq’E Entertainment Center | Monday, June 17 to Sunday, June 23 – Experience your own, real-life Candyland with a golden ticket to Candytopia. Jump into a marshmallow pit, sample candy, and gaze in wonder at this temporary candy museum and interactive exhibit. Tickets are $30 for adults; $23 for children ages 4 to 12; free for children ages 3 and under. 10am to 8:30pm daily.
  • Circo Hermanos Vazquez in North Houston | Monday, June 17 to Sunday, June 23 – Have a high flyin’ time at Circo Hermanos Vazquez where the thrills are nonstop. From human cannonballs, graceful dancers, and daring acrobats up in the air to crazy clowns and jaw-dropping feats of strength back on solid ground, this touring show gathers tons of talent under the big top for a big dose of family fun. Tickets range from $15 to $60, but limited comped (you only pay the ticketing fee) to $45 tickets are available for most shows. Showtimes vary.
  • Summer Movie Express at Regal Cinemas | Tuesday, June 18 and Wednesday, June 19 – Take advantage of $1 tickets to movies with the kids this summer. Available at all Regal Cinemas locations. Cool off indoors and check out Lego Batman Movie and House with a Clock in Its Walls this week. Ages 3 and up. Tickets are $1. 10am both days.
  • Juneteenth at George Ranch Historical Park | Wednesday, June 19 – Learn about the African American families, both pre- and post-slavery, who helped shape the Ranch by observing a re-enactment of this important speech and hear the reactions of the men and women who lived through this difficult time. A BBQ lunch will take place afterward. General admission for the park ranges from $10 to $15. Cost for the meal is $15 for ages 13 and older; $12 for children ages 5 to 12; $4 for children 4 and under. 10am.
  • Galveston’s Juneteenth Parade & Picnic in Galveston | Wednesday, June 19 | FREE – Celebrate Juneteenth in Galveston with a parade starting on Ball to 41st Street and ending in Wright Cuney Park. Throw down a blanket and enjoy a picnic with friends and family afterward. Noon.
  • Sleuths and Secrets Mystery Night at HMNS | Thursday, June 20 – Crack the case with clues, evidence, and history as you unlock a series of riddles and mysterious objects in the Cabinet of Curiosities of Ferrante Imperato of 16th century Naples. Houston Museum of Natural Science hosts this unique experience for detectives ages 15 and up. Tickets are $40 for non-members; $30 for members. 6:30pm.
  • Rainbow on the Green at Discovery Green | Friday, June 21 | FREE – Celebrate Pride at the family-friendly annual city-wide LGBT celebration at Discovery Green. Electrifying entertainment by Chad Michaels and OneUp, along with some of Houston’s best drag performers, will make it a memorable night for all. 7pm to 10pm.
  • Sandcastle Building Demonstrations and Lessons on Stewart Beach | Saturday, June 22 | FREE – Set your eyes on a professional sandcastle builder and learn a thing about the art of sand. The instructor will build a sandcastle in the morning from 8am to 11am. Lessons follow at 11am, 1pm, and 3pm. The demonstration and lessons are free, but your own buckets and shovels are recommended. If you drive to Stewart Beach, there is a $10 parking fee per vehicle until noon; $12 from noon on. 8am to 3pm.
  • Summer Party on Main | Saturday, June 22 | No Cover – Get in the groove of Summer at a free family-friendly party in La Porte. Guests can enjoy live Tejano music, food trucks, local craft and artisan vendors, and a car show. For the kiddos, there will be crafts, slides, rides, and plenty of fun activities. All ages are encouraged to sign up for the Watermelon Eating Contest. 4pm to 9pm.
