- King Krule at White Oak Music Hall | Monday, April 9 – After releasing The Ooz to critical acclaim last October, King Krule has been blending the genres of jazz, punk, and hip-hop as part of an international tour. Their willingness to rise above musical standards provides an easy option for those looking to go out on a weeknight. Tickets start at $28; day-of-show tickets are running for $30, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s online resale marketplace. 7pm.
- Backyard Jams Concert Series at Market Square Park with Dollie Barnes & VODI | Friday, April 13 | FREE – The live concert series in Downtown catches two impressive local acts in Dollie Barnes and Vodi made up of some of Houston’s finest musicians and led by Haley Barnes and Tom Lynch, respectively. With sounds of the ’70s and ’80s billowing out, it’s easy to pick up a groove and enjoy two of the best new acts that Houston has to offer. This event is free and lasts from 7pm to 10pm.
- Felix Da Housecat at Stereo Live | Sunday, April 15 – One of the biggest international electronica artists makes a stop in Houston, bringing a night of remixes, slinky beats, and a packed dance floor. Catch him on the west side of town with tickets starting at $5. 6pm.
- Bill Murray, Jan Vogler & Friends at Jones Hall | Monday, April 16 – Best known for his comedy and mythical status, Murray brings distinguished cellist Jan Vogler, violinist Mira Wang, and pianist Vanessa Perez for a night of music and literature. In a program that highlights work from Hemingway to Gershwin, this is sure to be an unforgettable night with a legendary artist. Tickets start at $52 and may approach a sell-out, but you may be able to find cheaper, better, or hard-to-get seats using the TicketNetwork marketplace. 7:30pm.
- Chromeo and Phantoms at House of Blues | Wednesday, April 18 – Often found near the top of music festival lineups, this electro-funk duo out of Canada brings dance to the masses with tracks that range the musical spectrum from soul and disco to funk and pop. - Nina Diaz and Wild Moccasins at Rockefellers | Friday, April 20 – Hailing from San Antonio, Nina Diaz rose to prominence playing with Girl in a Coma during her teenage years. Now on her own, she’ll be stopping by Rockellers for a bill that includes local favorites Wild Moccasins on the verge of releasing their new album. Tickets range from $12 to $15. 8pm.
- Eric B. & Rakim, YoYo at House of Blues | Tuesday, April 24 – Out of the ’80s came Eric B. & Rakim, the East Coast hip-hop duo that became pioneers of the artform and one of the most influential combos in music. Rolling by House of Blues, their weekday set might as well be a pilgrimage for any follower of modern rap. Tickets are $35. 7pm.
- Parquet Courts and Deep Time at White Oak Music Hall | Tuesday, April 24 – The NYC indie rock outfit stops by Houston in advance of their new studio album, Wide Awake!, that drops in May. Tickets start at $18, but you may be able to find better or cheaper tickets using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 7pm.
- Weird Al Yankovic and Emo Philips at Stafford Centre | Tuesday, April 24 – The King of Parody makes a rare tour stop in Stafford, Texas for an up-close and personal appearance. Tickets range from $45 to $60, but you may find cheaper or better seats on the TicketNetwork resale marketplace. 8pm.
- David Byrne and Perfume Genius at White Oak Music Hall | Saturday, April 28 – On the heels of his brand new album, American Utopia, the frontman for the legendary Talking Heads will be here, supported by the quickly rising Perfume Genius.
