- Julieta Venegas in Concert at Arena Theatre | Friday, September 1 – Catch singer-songwriter, Julieta Venegas when she makes her way to the Arena Theatre in Bellaire. A pioneer whose music and image have broken Latina stereotypes, Venegas has forged a path between Latin alternative and pop music and supported the cresting of a strong wave of Mexican female artists. Tickets start at $29.50. 8:30pm.
- Bach and Piazzolla at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Saturday, September 2 | No Cover – Bandoneonist Denis Plante and guitarist David Jacques rejoin Mercury under the baton of Antoine Plante, Artistic Director, for a unique orchestral experience that combines the seductive tango of Piazzolla with the perfection of J.S. Bach. This outdoor performance in the Museum District will also be heightened by dramatic lighting and projected images. 8pm.
- Sturgill Simpson in Concert at Smart Financial Centre | Thursday, September 7 – Acclaimed country singer Sturgill Simpson hits the stage in Sugar Land for a performance that will feature a variety material from throughout his career. These specific tour dates are meant to be a way for Simpson to thank his fans—both old and new—for his unprecedented years of recent success. Tickets start at $29.50. 8pm.
- Janet Jackson in Concert at Toyota Center | Saturday, September 9 – The global music icon Janet Jackson hits the stage for her State of the World Tour at the Toyota Center in Downtown. The multi-platinum selling artist will bring her tour to Houston as a continuation of the Unbreakable tour that was postponed last year. The tour will include fan favorites from her chart-topping Unbreakable album, an array of her socially conscious music she’s released throughout her career, and other smash hits and soon-to-be released new tracks with a state of the art live production. - ZZ Top in Concert at Smart Financial Centre | Sunday, September 10 – Bandmates Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard of ZZ Top have been electrifying crowds since the ’70s and currently hold the record as the longest-performing American rock band with original members. Mixing Texas blues with rock instrumentation, ZZ Top are responsible for the legendary rock compositions, “La Grange,” “Sharp Dressed Man”, and “Tush.” Keep Houston beard with the Texas trio when they make their way to the Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land. Tickets start at $65. 8pm.
- Future Islands in Concert at White Oak Music Hall | Tuesday, September 12 – Catch the synth-pop band from Baltimore, Future Islands, when they make their way to White Oak Music Hall on the Near Northside. As addictive songs like breakout “Seasons (Waiting on You)” turned the world on to sublime pleasures a loyal fan base already knew, this hard-touring band plowed forward, playing their 1,000th show in July 2015 and celebrating their 10th anniversary in February 2016. Now Future Islands returns with new album The Far Field, delivering twelve chestpounding love songs and odes to the road. Tickets start at $22. 7pm.
- Japanese Breakfast at Walter’s Downtown | Thursday, September 14 – Hear the bedroom pop sounds of Japanese Breakfast at Walter’s Downtown. Where Michelle Zauner’s last album, Psychopomp, introduced the world to Japanese Breakfast her latest record, Soft Sounds from Another Planet dives deeper. It builds space where there is none, and suggests that in the face of tragedy, we find ways to keep on living. Tickets start at $12. 8pm.
- The Texas Taco Music Fest at Discovery Green | Saturday, September 16 – Spend a Saturday afternoon trying out tacos, listening to live music, browsing craft booths and more at Houston’s Discovery Green. The Coalition of Hispanics for Excellence In Technology & Art (CHEITA) hosts this all-day festival, benefiting the city’s cultural arts programs, which is set to include a taco cook-off featuring some of the area’s finest chefs and restaurants, plus a special performance by Danzantes de Voladeros, a daredevil pole-flying dance team direct from Papantla, Mexico. Musical acts Mind Shrine, #43 and Jimencio Castillon are scheduled to take the stage, and there’s a kids’ area for the little ones. Tickets are $12 online; $15 at the door; $90 for VIP; free for kids under 12. You may be able to find limited discounted tickets for $6. Noon to 9pm.
- Ricardo Arjona in Concert at Toyota Center | Saturday, September 23 – Catch Latin American artist Ricardo Arjona perform songs off of his new album, Circo Soledad, at Toyota Center in Downtown. Considered one of the most successful Latin American artists of all time, with more than 40 million albums sold, Arjona will tour behind his most recent album which chronicles his journeys through sounds, letters, and stories. - Marco Antonio Solis in Concert at Toyota Center | Friday, September 29 – The iconic Mexican singer is celebrating 40 years in the music industry. With 18 studio albums, over 40 million albums sold and over 300 songs to his name, “El Buki” continues to be considered one of the most influential artists in Latin music. Solis will be joined by Jesse & Joy who are set to open the show. Tickets start at $59.50, but you may find cheaper or better seats on TicketNetwork’s online resale market. 8pm.
