Top 11 Things to Do with Kids This Week in Houston

  • Movie Night Mondays at Heights Bier Garten | Monday, October 22 | FREE – For the entire month of October, Heights Bier Garten will be screening Halloween-themed flicks for their family-friendly Movie Night Mondays. This Monday, they will be screening Beetlejuice. 7pm.
  • TUTS presents The Wiz at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts | Tuesday, October 23 to Sunday, October 24 – Theatre Under The Stars brings to life a beloved retelling of the Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, presenting The Wiz at The Hobby Center.  With hits like “Ease on Down the Road” and “A Brand New Day,” this energetic and family-friendly show is a crowd pleaser. Tickets start at $30, but you may find cheaper, better, or hard-to-find seats on TicketNetwork’s resale website. Showtimes vary.
  • Moving Myths: Story Telling Through Dance at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Wednesday, October 24 | FREE – Join METdance for an interactive performance of Moving Myths at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Students, teachers, and audience members will have the opportunity to converse with the dancers and participate in an hour of dance while learning of tales from other cultures. 11am.
  • Zoo Boo at the Houston Zoo | Friday, October 26 to Sunday, October 27 – Bring your little pumpkins to the Zoo for photos in the pumpkin patch, trick-or-treating, costume parades and more. Entrance to Zoo Boo is included with Zoo admission. Times vary.
  • Scream on the Green at Discovery Green | Friday, October 26 | FREE – Have a spooky good time at this costume contest and Halloween celebration for the whole family at Discovery Green. There will be prizes, a movie, music, games, and more. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation Movie Screening at Memorial City | Friday, October 26 | FREE – Bring the whole family for an outdoor screening of Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation on the Square at Memorial City. 7pm to 9pm.
  • Halloween Classic Car Show at National Museum of Funeral History | Saturday, October 27 – Get into the Halloween spirit while checking out more than 150 cars at the 11th Annual Halloween Car Show at the National Museum of Funeral History. A variety of cars will be featured, including a few hearses, making for a very lively event featuring a live DJ, silent auction, great food from local vendors, kids activities and more. $3 for individuals; $5 for couples and families. Admission to the museum or haunted house is not included in tickets for the car show. 10am to 3pm.
  • The Woodlands Oktoberfest at Town Green Park | Saturday, October 27 | FREE – The Woodlands community hosts their Oktoberfest with live music, food trucks, a kids zone, trick or treat and more at Town Green Park. 11am to 10pm.
  • Dia de los Muertos Festival at MECA Houston | Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28 | FREE – MECA Houston hosts their annual Día De Los Muertos Festival: Honoring our Past, Celebrating Our Future. Recognizing the differences in Latin celebrations of Dia de Los Muertos, this event focuses on the common theme of honoring family and friends. 11am to 7pm both days.
  • 6th Annual Houston AfriFest | Saturday, October 27 – Houston AfriFest celebrates African arts, culture, and entertainment—showcasing music, foods, fashion and the varied and diverse cultures that span the continent. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 day of the event for adults; free for ages 12 and under, students and ages 65 and up. Noon to 8pm.
  • Who R U?: Children’s Costume Party at The Menil Collection | Sunday, October 28 – The Menil’s annual children’s Halloween fundraiser returns this fall with activities such as a petting zoo, camel rides, craft activities, and a rock-climbing wall. It will be an afternoon of fun for kids of all ages, and the young at heart. Tickets start at $75. 3pm to 5pm.
