Top 10 Things to Do with Kids This Week in Houston

  • Circus Arts at Discovery Green | Tuesday, May 1 | FREE – Circus Arts is a class that consists of ground arts and ground acrobatics such as contortion/flexibility, low tight wire, partner acrobatics, juggling, and hand balancing. Guests must be 13 and older for the class. 6pm to 8pm.
  • Toddler Music with Sessions at Sugar Land Town Square | Thursday, May 3 | FREE – Immerse your child in a musical atmosphere of play, song, and dance, all while developing fundamental skills and connecting with other moms, dads, and families. Recommended for ages newborn to 7 years old. 9:30am to 10:15am.
  • Children’s Story Hour at Hermann Park | Friday, May 4 | FREE – Bring your little ones to listen to a story every Friday morning in the McGovern Centennial Garden’s Family Garden in Hermann Park. After the reading, children are invited to participate in a fun activity. 10am to 11pm.
  • May the 4th Be With You: Star Wars Community Night at Houston Food Bank | Friday, May 4 – The Star Wars Enthusiasts of Houston hosts a family-friendly May The 4th Be With You party filled with cosplay, games and more at the Houston Food Bank. This special event will consist of a short volunteer shift from 6pm to 7pm followed by Star Wars themed activities, games, and snacks after from 7pm to 9pm.
  • Youth Poetry Performance Sessions at Discovery Green | Friday, May 4 – Writers in the Schools and Discovery Green host a free writing and performance workshop series for ages 13 to 19. 6:30pm to 8pm.
  • LULAC District VIII Cinco de Mayo Parade in Downtown | Saturday, May 5 | FREE – Enjoy Mexican culture as LULAC District 8 present a festive Cinco de Mayo parade at Minute Maid Park in Downtown. 10am to noon.
  • Cinco de Mayo Celebration at The Woodlands Children’s Museum | Saturday, May 5 – The Woodlands Children’s Museum hosts a Cinco de Mayo event featuring performances from the Chikawa Aztec Dancers, a cultural performance by Ballet Folklorico, and a special reading of the book, Cinco de Mouse O. This event is included with general admission to the museum. 10am to noon.
  • 7th Annual May the 4th Art Festival | Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 – Celebrate all things Star Wars with over 100 artists and vendors, DJs, food trucks, and costumes at the 7th Annual May the 4th Art Festival. Tickets are $7 in advance; $10 at the door; free for kids under 12. Noon each day.
  • Cinco de Mayo at Traders Village Houston | Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6 – Traders Village Houston hosts a 2-day Cinco de Mayo celebration for the whole family. There will be 3 stages with live music, shopping, amusement rides and more. Parking is $4. Noon to 6pm each day.
  • Open Studio: Felt Landscape at CAMH | Saturday, May 5 | FREE – Inspired by textile works and fiber drawings in the exhibition Right Here, Right Now: San Antonio, this drop-in, hands-on activity involves creating felt landscapes at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. 2pm to 4pm.
