Top 12 Things to Do with Kids This Week in Houston

  • Dancer’s Day out at Westwood Gymnastics | Monday, July 1 and Wednesday, July 3 – Let the tiny dancer in your life have a blast twirling around at Westwood Gymnastics. Activities include sports, gymnastics, open gym, games and more. Don’t forget to send a packed lunch. Boys and girls ages 3 and up (potty trained) are welcome to come play. Register online up to 24 hours in advance or more for $16; $20 at the door on the day of the event. 10am to 2pm both days.
  • Summer Music Festival Orchestra at Miller Outdoor Theater | Wednesday, July 3 | FREE – Head to Miller Outdoor Theater as more than 100 Houston-area high school musicians come together to perform a selection of orchestral works for AFA’s Summer Music Festival. Led by conductor and AFA alum Dr. Michelle Perrin Blair, the orchestra will play Respighi’s Pines of Rome, as well as an AFA-commissioned arrangement of Rob Smith’s Beacon Fires. 8:30pm.
  • Spaceballs Movie Screening at Market Square Park | Wednesday, July 3 | FREE – Kick off the holiday weekend with a free showing of Spaceballs, a hilarious tale that follows a rogue star pilot and his trusty sidekick as they rescue a princess and save the galaxy. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and get ready to watch. This movie is rated PG. 8:30pm.
  • Kidpendence Day at Children’s Museum of Houston | Independence Day, Thursday, July 4 – Bring out the kiddos to celebrate the country’s 243rd birthday at the Children’s Museum of Houston. Have a meet-and-greet with Captain America and Wonder Woman, enjoy a flag ceremony, and take part in a science demo. Entrance is included with the general admission price to the museum. 10am to 3pm.
  • 4th Fest at Valley Ranch | Independence Day, July 4 – Jam-packed with a bbq cook-off, fireworks show, cirque acts, family activities the festival will also feature concerts by some of the top Texas country artists including Max Stalling, JB & the Moonshine Band, Jody Booth, and headliner Pat Green to end the evening. Tickets are $25 and kids under 12 get in free. 2pm to 10pm.
  • Freedom Over Texas at Eleanor Tinsley Park | Independence Day, Thursday, July 4 – Celebrate Independence Day with a dazzling display of fireworks, live music, and more at CITGO Freedom Over Texas in Eleanor Tinsley Park. This Independence Day, CITGO Freedom Over Texas celebrates more than three decades of Fourth festivities and fireworks along Buffalo Bayou with a spectacular lineup of musical guests and activities for the whole family. Tickets are $8 in advance until Wednesday, July 3, $10 at the gate; children 5 and under are free with paid adult. 4pm to 10pm.
  • 180th City of Galveston Independence Day Celebration, Parade & Fireworks | Independence Day, Thursday, July 4 | FREE – Galveston Island will throw its annual Independence Day Celebration featuring a parade featuring a procession of floats, decorated military vehicles and performers. After the parade, the island will host a 20-minute fireworks show over the Gulf of Mexico at 9:15pm near 37th Street and Seawall Boulevard. 7pm.
  • July 4th Celebrations around Greater Houston | Independence Day, Thursday, July 4 – Wave your flags, catch a fireworks show, take a dip in the water, watch the floats in a parade, partake in a food eating contest and more with the many 4th of July celebrations going on around Greater Houston. Event times and prices vary.
  • Christmas in July 5k and Kids K at The Salvation Army of Greater Houston | Saturday, July 6 – Sing Fa La La La all the way to finish line where Christmas fanatics will rejoice at this festive, mid-year 5K that takes runners through a scenic course around Downtown. Kids under 12 can join the fun in this festive Kids K distance, but runners of all ages are welcome. Proceeds from the run will benefit The Salvation Army of Greater Houston. Tickets start at $35. 7am.
  • Movie Night on The Strand: Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle Movie Screening at Saengerfest Park | Saturday, July 6 | FREE – Cozy up in The Strand District for a free screening of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black. Bring chairs, blankets, and pillows to take in the free family-friendly movie under the stars. This movie is rated PG-13. 7:45pm to 10pm.
  • Kid’s Day at Minute Maid Park | Sunday, July 7 – Bring the family to Kid’s Day at the ballpark, which celebrates little ones with inflatables, face painters, caricature artists, arcade games, corn hole, and a coloring station. The Astros will be playing against the Los Angeles of Anaheim. The first 10,000 kids ages 12 and under will receive a Carlos Correa replica jersey, and those who stick around after the game can take the field and run the bases. Tickets start at $15. 1:10pm.
  • Texas Country Summer Block Party at Levy Park | Sunday, July 7 | FREE – Keep the heat going this Summer with a free day of entertainment at Levy Park. Bring the family to enjoy food trucks, live country music, bubble stations, face painting, and children’s activities at their Texas Country Summer Block Party. 5pm to 9pm.
