• 86th Annual Fort Bend County Fair & Rodeo in Rosenberg | Daily – Wrapping up this weekend, this 10-day fair and rodeo features carnival rides, BBQ competitions, concerts, a farmer’s market, a crawfish boil, a fishing tournament, and much more. Season passes are available for $40; single day admission is $15 at the gate; $5 for ages 6 to 11; free for ages 5 and under. Times vary.
• Raptor Fest at Houston Audubon’s Raptor and Education Center | Friday & Saturday – Celebrate the owl, eagles and other predatory birds that hunt with their feet at this two-day festival that offers diorama crafts, coloring pages, painting, mask-making, face painters, games and more. $10. Some activities are $5. 10am to 3pm.
• Karbachtoberfest 2022 at Karbach Brewing Company | Friday & Saturday | No Cover – Running three full weekends (from Friday to Sunday), Karbachtoberfest is back with live music, stein hoisting competitions, wiener dog races and the brewery’s Bavarian-style marzen (lager), for which the fest is named. Times vary.
• Saint Arnold Oktoberfest 2022 at Saint Arnold Brewery | Friday to Sunday | FREE – The spacious beer garden at Saint Arnold hosts high energy live music from Das Ist Lustig with Valina Polka, plus glass boots and beer goggle races. 6pm to 9pm.
• Shortcuts at MATCH | Friday & Saturday – On the Matchbox 1 stage, Open Dance Project brings a collection of 5 world premiere dance theater “shorts” that feature company members utilizing different approaches and choreographic processes to explore themes of human connection, self-exploration and loss. $35; $20 for students. Showtimes vary.
• Movements: New & Revised at MATCH | Friday & Saturday – And over in Matchbox 2, Social Movement Contemporary Dance offers four programs that touch on the lineage of hip-hop, a celebration of women through a series of solos, social protest, and the realities of depression. $30. Times vary.
• Kemah Boo on the Boardwalk Opening Weekend at Kemah Boardwalk | Friday to Sunday | No Cover – The Boardwalk kicks off its annual Halloween celebration with themed festivities, live music, crafts, movie screenings and more, every weekend through Halloween, Monday, October 31. Times vary.
• Houston Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays at Minute Maid Park | Friday to Sunday – In their second-to-last series of the season, the ‘Stros host Tampa Bay for a weekend that features fireworks, a Yuli Gurriel jersey giveaway, bobbleheads, and a free Astros bucket hat. $25 and up. Times vary.
• Houston Symphony presents Gershwin’s Concerto In F at Jones Hall | Friday to Sunday – Jeffery Kahane leads the Symphony in a program celebrating great American composers, highlighted by the jazz-infused Concerto in F by Gershwin. $29 and up. Times vary.
• Comedian D.L. Hughley at Houston Improv | Friday to Sunday – A legendary comedian, actor, and host of his weekday radio show, D.L. Hughley stops by the Improv for five sets across three nights. Tickets are $110 for 2, and up. Times vary.
• 6th Annual Houston Lebanese Festival at Constellation Field | Saturday & Sunday – Celebrate Lebanaon’s food, music, history, culture, and more family-friendly fun. Each day will be capped off by headliner concert with Guy Manoukian on Saturday and Najwa Karam on Sunday. $35; $10 for ages each day. Times vary.
• P-6 Farms Fall Festival in Montgomery | Saturday & Sunday – Opening this weekend through Sunday, November 6, this massive farm complex near the Woodlands offers a ton of family-friendly fun at their Fall Festival, including patches of pumpkins and flowers for picking, plus a bevy of farm attractions like playgrounds, carnival rides, pig races, a corn field maze, and much more. Tickets are $24.95 per person; free for ages 2 and under. Pumpkins and flowers are an additional cost. Saturday and Sunday 10am to 7pm.
• Football Biergarten Pop-Up at CityCentre | Saturday & Sunday | No Cover – Take in pints of specialty Oktoberfest brews while you catch college and NFL games on the outdoor screens all weekend long. Saturday 11am to 9pm; Sunday 11am to 8pm.
• Manhattan Short Film Festival at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston | Saturday & Sunday – This popular film gathering returns for two weekends, offering moviegoers a chance to view and vote on the finalists of the Manhattan Short Film Festival, also taking place at theaters around the globe. $10. • A.D. Players presents Miss Maude at the George Theater | Daily | Ongoing– There’s big buzz around this pre-Broadway play based on the real-life friendship between a Life magazine photographer and a South Carolina midwife. $25 and up. Showtimes vary.
• Lend Me A Soprano at Alley Theatre | Daily | Ongoing – In this world premiere by Ken Ludwig, the manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company is ready to welcome a preeminent soprano to town for a single show of Carmen. The soprano turns up late, her husband is jealous, and it falls to the manager’s assistant to figure out how the show can go on. Ludwig based the show on his own smash hit Lend Me A Tenor. $26 and up. Showtimes vary.
• Trouble in Mind at Main Street Theater | Daily | Ongoing – The Rice Village theater opens the 2022-23 season with this regional premiere, the story of a gifted Black actress on the cusp of having all she’s dreamed of—but what principles will she have to sacrifice to get it? $44 and up. • TUTS presents Ain’t Misbehavin’ at Hobby Center | Daily | Final Weekend – The music of Fats Waller and the energy of the Harlem Renaissance combine in this Tony Award–winning musical that returns in a brand-new production from Theatre Under the Stars. $40 and up. Showtimes vary.
• On the Verge Theatre presents Tied at Ensemble Theatre | Friday to Sunday | Final Weekend – When four little girls were killed in the 1963 bombing at a Birmingham Baptist church, the world mourned. But the attack was personal for David, who lost his youngest daughter. And now, someone is threatening the life of his wife and surviving child. This world premiere one-man play is based on actual events. $35. Showtimes vary.
• Houston Ballet presents Good Vibrations at Wortham Center | Friday to Sunday | Final Weekend – Inspired by the music of the Beach Boys, this long-awaited world premiere combines original score with ballet choreography for a triple bill that also features Stanton Welch’s Red Earth and The Letter V by Joseph Haydn. $25 and up. • Comedian Dustin Nickerson at Rudyard’s Pub – Coming off the release of his 2021 full-length special, Overwhelmed on Amazon Prime, the comedian and author of How to be Married to Melissa performs one set at the Montrose British pub. $15 and up. 7pm.
• Mom Jeans in Concert at Rise Rooftop – The alt-indie four-piece brings songs from their latest, Sweet Tooth, to the rooftop stage in Midtown. Free Throw, Just Friends, and Small Crush open. $25. 7pm.
• Ingenious Lotería at Ingenious Brewing Co. | No Cover – Grab a glass at Humble’s innovative brewery and sit down for a night of Lotería for prizes. 7pm to 9pm.
• WindSync: The Road to Abbey Road at 8th Wonder Brewery – Help send off Houston’s wind quintet WindSync at a concert event before they travel to London to record in the legendary Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios. $35. 7:30pm.
