My Top 5 Things to Do in Houston

by Mills-McCoin

  1. Spending a glorious afternoon at the West Alabama Ice House – Having been around since 1928, the West Alabama Ice House is very a Texan setting to watch a Texans game or gather with friends.
  2. Seeing a show at one of Houston’s comedy theaters – Whether it’s a show at Station Theater, Beta Theater or a pop up stand up comedy show somewhere, local comedians always find laughter and joy in performing for an audience.
  3. Eating – Sometimes I just want tacos from a truck. Other times I indulge in the opulence of Adam Dorris’ brilliant culinary mind at Pax Americana. Either way, I’m hungry and Houston food is perfection.
  4. Burlesque – The growing burlesque scene in Houston is impressing me more and more every day. Spectacular performances can be found all over Midtown, Downtown and Montrose. And if I had to pick a favorite… the Provocateur show at Prohibition Supper Club in Downtown would be it.
  5. Explaining the Rodeo Cookoff to an out-of-towner – “Imagine something called Cowboy Mardi Gras. It’s basically a barbecue paradise with live music, strange costumes and more beer than all of the nation’s college campuses combined.”

About Mills-McCoin

Mills is a fixture of Houston entertainment through hosting, MC’ing, voicing and producing live events all over the city. Notably, he’s the voice of Blanket Bingo at Market Square Park, a contributor to Free Press Houston and a performer at Prohibition Supper Club. A native Houstonian, Mills got his start introducing bands at live music shows around town. His love for music, comedy and live events is only matched by his passion for his work on cold fusion (which he plans to take up soon).
