Join Market Square Park in celebrating their fifth anniversary during A Night at Market Square on Saturday, October 17, 2015.

Celebrating its fifth anniversary since its renovation, Market Square Park is throwing a free event featuring live music, comedy, food, drinks and more.

Located in the heart of the Historic District, Market Square Park underwent extensive renovations before reopening to the public in late August of 2010. The public space has been revitalized from its former state and now serves as a destination for Houstonians to enjoy live entertainment, public art and popular events like Blanket Bingo.

The park will formally celebrate the anniversary of its reopening on the evening of Saturday, October 17 during A Night at Market Square – a free event open to the public.

During this event, guests can explore businesses surrounding the park, catching live music at places like Batanga and The Honeymoon, a free birthday burlesque performance at Prohibition Supper Club and downtown living tours from Heritage Texas Properties. Market Square Park will also have games, shopping, food trucks and a live DJ for all to enjoy.

The highlight of the evening will be the premiere of The HOU Show with Mills and Antoine, which will take place in the park at 9pm. The live show is a cross between Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show and will give a comedic glimpse into the history of Houston. Houston’s own Moji will perform as the “house band.”

About Market Square Park

Market Square Park is one square block located where Congress Avenue and Preston Street meet Milam and Travis Streets. The park was gifted to the city by Augustus Allen in 1854 and served as an open-air produce and fish market under the name of Congress Square at the center of the city.

In 2009, the park underwent extensive renovations to restore its original role in the neighborhood and reopened to the public in 2010. Today the park offers a dog run, garden, public art and Greek food from Niko Niko’s.
