The Run for the Rose and MS150 provide chances to participate while raising money for a good cause and a rare appearance by the US Women’s soccer team gives fans a glimpse of their World Cup stars.

Top 10 Games & Sports Events this Month: April 2017

  • Run for the Rose 5K at NRG Park | Sunday, April 2 – This 15th annual charity run raises funds to donate toward brain cancer research in the name of Dr. Marnie Rose, who lost her life to the disease in 2002. Those participating will follow a stroll, 1K, or 5K route snaking around NRG Stadium and the Astrodome. Registration starts at $20 for children and $35 for adults in non-timed events. The stroll begins at 8am with the 5K and 1K to follow after.
  • Championship Round of the Shell Houston Open at Golf Club of Houston | Sunday, April 2 – While the tournament starts at the Humble tournament course on March 30, the final day’s Championship Round features the last group of golfers aiming to come out on top in the 71st year of the Open. Full day admissions start at $45, not including ticket fees. Golfers tee off around 7:30am and play through noon.
  • Houston Astros Opening Day vs Seattle Mariners at Minute Maid Park | Monday, April 3 – Finishing last season outside of the playoffs after a deep run the year before was disappointing for any Astros fan but this year is shaping up to look different. The crack of bats belonging to Jose Altuve, George Springer and Carlos Correa combined with the pitching talent of Lance McCullers could make for an exciting year at Minute Maid. Tickets for opening day range between $55 to $210, not including ticket fees. First pitch flys at 7:10pm.
  • Rice University Owls vs University Houston Cougars baseball at Cougars Field | Tuesday, April 4 – If you haven’t gotten your fill of baseball at Astros’ Opening Day, then head over to UH the next night for the Houston schools’ rivalry sparking up at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. Tickets range between $5 to $8. 6:30pm.
  • Houston Astros vs Kansas City Royals at Minute Maid Park | Friday, April 8 – It’s Jose Altuve Bobblehead Night at the ballpark as the Astros meet the Kansas City Royals, who you may remember ousted the ‘Stros in the 2015 Division Series playoff. This year, both teams look to lick their wounds from 2016’s disappointments and come out stronger. Tickets start at $55 and go up to $210, not including ticket fees. 6:10pm.
  • US Women’s Soccer vs Russia at BBVA Compass Stadium | Saturday, April 9 – While things haven’t been smooth sailing since the US women won the 2015 World Cup, the hometown Dash have seen multiple players rotate in and out of the national team and this matchup gives a great opportunity to play in front of a home crowd. Carli Lloyd, Morgan Brian, and Kealia Ohai are all potential call-ups as the women re-tool ahead of the upcoming NWSL season. Remaining tickets range from $25 to $250, not including ticket fees. Kickoff at 1pm.
  • ATP Men’s Clay Court Championship at River Oaks Country Club | Monday, April 10 to Sunday, April 16 – The annual tournament returns to River Oaks in mid-April and features tennis pros Juan Monaco, Fernando Verdasco, and John Isner. Many tickets are sold out but remaining ones for the Finals can still be found for $70. Times vary so check the website for details on a specific day’s events.
  • Houston Rockets vs Minnesota Timberwolves at Toyota Center | Wednesday, April 12th – The final game of the NBA’s regular season for the Rockets comes at home against the Wolves. Playoffs for Houston are a certainty so they’ll be back later in the month for a playoff matchup, but this might be the cheapest ticket to see the Rockets for awhile. Seats start at $20, not including ticket fees. 7pm.
  • NHRA Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway | Friday, April 21 to Sunday, April 23 – The nation’s Top Fuel dragster event returns to Baytown’s Royal Purple Raceway, promising deafening roars, and high-octane thrills. Day tickets to the events start at $45 for adults; $15 for children 13 and under. 9am.
  • BP MS150 | Saturday, April 29 through Sunday, April 30 – After last year’s cancellation due to severe weather, the annual charity ride benefiting research for Multiple Sclerosis returns. Be among more than 10,000 cyclists trekking from Houston to Austin over two days with a minimum donation of $400 upon registration. Three starting locations are available, riding out around 6:45am; Rhodes Stadium in Katy, Waller Stadium in Waller, and Tully Stadium in Houston.
