- 4th Annual And Through Their Eyes Grow Thorns Exhibition at MATCH | Daily | FREE – Curated by Kevin Dapree Anderson and presented by the T.R.U.T.H. Project, this annual week-long exhibition at MATCH explores storytelling through a queer lens of color, as captured through paintings, sculpture, wood work and more. Times vary.
- Ice House Radio at Brasil | Wednesday to Friday | FREE – The roving DJ broadcast opens a new weekly residency this summer on the prime patio at Brasil Cafe in Montrose. The Department of Black Phenomena kick things off on Juneteenth, followed by a Thursday show with DJ Cold One, Duane Bradley, Dusty Tombs and Whitney Screwston. Then, on Friday, catch Nengo Zuniga, Alikhan, and Noey Lopez to round out the first week of shows. 7pm to 11pm.
- Fade To Black Play Festival at MATCH | Wednesday to Saturday | Ongoing – In the first of two weekends, this 12th anniversary festival spotlights the new short play works of African American playwrights from across the nation. $45 and up. 8pm.
- Catastrophic Theatre presents Tamarie’s Texas Toast! at MATCH | Thursday to Sunday | Ongoing – Tamarie Cooper is back with a summer production as big as the Lone Star state, toasting to high school football, gas station beavers, flag parades, giant roaches, and the glory of Whataburger. Pay-what-you-can. 7:30pm.
- Desde El Alma: Songs from the Heart starring Camille Zamora at Hobby Center | Friday & Saturday – The native Houstonian and renowned soprano returns with bandoneón virtuoso Hector Del Curto and tango pianist Pablo Estigarribia, featuring music by Astor Piazzolla, Rosita Melo, Carlos Gardel, Consuelo Velázquez, and more. $49 and up. Friday 7:30pm; Saturday 7pm.
- Comedian Matt McCusker at Houston Improv | Friday & Saturday – The co-host of Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast and author is set to deliver stories drawn from his life experiences and a wide range of adventures. $100 for 4, and up. Times vary.
- The Sklar Brothers at the Secret Group | Friday & Saturday – The twin brother comics, best known for their show Cheap Seats on ESPN, arrive in EaDo for back-to-back nights of hilarious tales and observations. $20. Friday 8pm; Saturday 8pm and 10pm.
- Houston Autograph & Sports Card Show at Bayou City Event Center | Friday to Sunday – Sports fans can snag autographs from some of the biggest names in Houston sports, including many Astros like Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez alongside greats like Warren Moon, Randy Johnson, and beyond. Plus, swap and shop trading cards, vintage cards, signed memorabilia and more. Free on Friday; $10 on Saturday and Sunday. Autographs are an additional fee. Times vary.
- International Gem & Jewelry Show at NRG Center | Friday to Sunday – Shop a massive selection of extraordinary one-of-a-kind jewelry, loose gemstones, beaded strands, pearls, watches and more directly from manufacturers, wholesalers and designers. $6 and up. Times vary.
- Cyclone of Memories: An AstroWorld Exhibition at Houston Toy Museum | Friday to Sunday – Relive memories of Houston’s beloved bygone theme park in a display of souvenirs, memorabilia, photographs and collectibles that span from 1967 to 2005, with many rare items never seen by the general public. $14; $10 for ages 65+; kids pay their age up to 13. Noon to 6pm.
- Houston Astros vs. Baltimore Orioles at Minute Maid Park | Friday to Sunday – One of the league’s top teams comes to Houston for the weekend, and early arriving fans have a chance to snag giveaways like a throwback Bregman jersey and a Kyle Tucker bobblehead, plus a celebration of princesses on Sunday. $25 and up. Times vary.
- ImagineNation Kid Expo at Katy Merrell Center | Saturday & Sunday – This two-day expo in Katy is all about the kiddos with a chance to meet TV and video game characters, hands-on activities, face painting and balloon artists, crafts, a vendor marketplace, puppet and magic shows, and much more. $10, valid for both days. Free for ages 3 and under. 10am to 6pm.
- Houston Symphony presents Jurassic Park at Hobby Center | Saturday & Sunday – Watch the exciting dinosaur thriller projected on a giant screen while the Symphony plays John Williams’ iconic score live. $50 and up. Showtimes vary.
Juneteenth, Wednesday, June 19, 2024
- 45th Annual Al Edwards Juneteenth Celebration at 1859 Ashton Villa | FREE – Take in a live reading of General Order No. 3, which declared freedom for enslaved people, at the island’s official Juneteenth historic monument at the 1859 Ashton Villa. 10am to 11am.
- Juneteenth: Free Admission at Holocaust Museum Houston | FREE – The Holocaust Museum opens its doors, free of admission, on Juneteenth. This will also mark one of the final days to catch the ongoing Kinsey African American Art & History Collection exhibition, closing on Sunday, June 23. The collection is considered one of the most comprehensive surveys of African American history and culture outside the Smithsonian Institution. 10am to 7pm.
- Juneteenth Family Fun Day at Reedy Chapel AME | FREE – The historic Reedy Chapel AME church hosts a free community block party with food, games, prizes and more for families and those celebrating Juneteenth. Then, cap off the 159th Juneteenth by taking part in a historic reenactment of the emancipation march from the Chapel to the Galveston Courthouse to hear General Order No. 3, declaring “all slaves are free!” Block party from 1pm to 6pm; march event from 6pm to 8pm.
- Embers of Freedom & The Art of Poetry at Houston Museum of African American Culture | FREE – HMAAC celebrates Juneteenth with two performances (2pm and 4pm) of Embers of Freedom, an interactive play that blends song, dance and spoken word; plus an evening event that explores freedom’s journey through poetry, storytelling and music in The Art of Poetry, beginning at 7pm.
- Juneteenth Elevated Kickback Experience at Freedmen’s Town Visitor Center | FREE – Held at the brand new Visitor Center in historic Fourth Ward, this Juneteenth celebration features cuisine from across the African Diaspora, dance performances, live music and DJ, and art from the renowned This Way exhibition. 4pm to 8pm.
- Drive-By Truckers in Concert at House of Blues – The Southern rock group out of Georgia brings some of their fan favorite hits to the Downtown stage. $39.50 and up. 7pm.
- DIIV in Concert at White Oak Music Hall – The band known for their dream pop vibes and shoegaze sound comes to White Oak for a night of songs from their latest, Frog in Boiling Water. $32. 7pm.
- RuPaul’s Drag Race Trivia Night at City Orchard | FREE – The cidery in Arts District hosts a special night of trivia covering all things RuPaul’s Drag Race. Come by to vie for fabulous prizes, like a pair of tickets to the Astros’ Pride Night on the 25th. 7pm.
- Houston Dynamo FC vs. Seattle Sounders at Shell Energy Stadium – The Dynamo clash with a Western conference opponent in a weeknight match that observes the holiday of Juneteenth. $19 and up. 7:30pm.
- Juneteenth with Dominique Hammons at Central Cultural Center – Close out Juneteenth celebrations with live music, laughter and community in Galveston. Talented violinist Dominique Hammons will perform, along with comedian Liz Faublas-Wallace and poet Angela Hill. $18.65. 8pm to 10:30pm.

- Lunch & Learn Speaker Series with Dr. Goodwin: Texas Slave Narrative at the Heritage Society – Dr. Ronald Goodwin from Prairie View A&M University discusses the collection of slave narratives in Texas during the preservation efforts of the New Deal in the 1930s at the Heritage Society in Downtown. $10. Noon to 1pm.
- Lego Night at Decant Urban Winery – Take your pick from 10 different Lego sets, then get building amazing creations at this Garden Oaks winery event hosts by Houston Toy Museum. $14.99. 5pm.

- Crawfish Boil: Celebrating Juneteenth at Frost Bank Third Ward | FREE – The Frost Bank outpost on the edge of the University of Houston campus will serve up crawfish, shaved ice and live tunes for free to the public, in celebration of Juneteenth. 2pm to 4pm.
- Pride by the Pint Brewfest at Millenium High Street – Held near Highland Village, this Pride Weekend event features multiple Houston breweries, food trucks and local vendors coming together in the spirit of community, helping to raise funds for the Montrose Center. $5 and up. 6pm to 8pm.
