Since its beginnings in 2010, Small Business Saturday has become a promotion focused on supporting local entrepreneurs and business owners who might get easily overlooked between the big box store pandemonium around Black Friday and the e-commerce shopping of Cyber Monday.

As part the Comcast RISE initiative, Comcast has awarded $10,000 investment grants to 100 small, people of color-owned businesses across Harris and Fort Bend counties.

The Houston area was one of six cities—along with Miami, Oakland, Seattle, the Twin Cities, and Washington, D.C.—selected to award theses grant to 100 local businesses from the Comcast RISE Investment Fund, for a total of $6 million across 600 businesses.

And while $10,000 goes a long way for a small business, the most important thing each business needs is an active, local customer base. So Comcast encourages all Greater Houston residents to support the following 100 businesses, and countless others, this weekend and beyond.

The Comcast RISE Investment Fund

“Since we launched Comcast RISE a year ago, we have assisted more than 200 small businesses throughout the Houston area with either marketing, technology, or monetary grants. This round of Comcast RISE grants will provide even more small business owners of color with the resources and tools they need to thrive,” said Ralph Martinez, senior vice president for Comcast’s Houston region. “We look forward to empowering their success.”

Through Comcast RISE, the company also announced it will support 13,000 small businesses, owned by people of color and women, with a TV ad campaign, production of a TV commercial or consulting services from Effectv; or computer equipment, internet, voice, or cybersecurity from Comcast Business by 2022.
