Have an out-of-this-world experience during CineSpace Day at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston on Friday, November 13, 2015.
See NASA imagery through a visual art installation, multiple film screenings and short film submissions during CineSpace Day at MFAH.
Throughout the day, you can see artist Marco Brambilla’s visual installation Apollo XVIII. The multi-channel video installation will turn the Museum of Fine Arts’ Cullinan Hall into a virtual launchpad for an imaginary mission to the moon. Brambilla worked with NASA to imitate a countdown in the virtual world, using footage from NASA’s archives along with computer-generated pieces.
At 1pm, watch Time Magazine’s documentary series A Year in Space – which follows astronaut Scott Kelly’s record-setting stay at the International Space Station. There to present the film will be directors Shaul Schwarz and Marco Grob, producer Jonathan Woods and Time Magazine editor at large Jeffrey Kluger.
Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the award winning film Apollo 13 with a screening at 3pm. Screenwriters William Broyles Jr. and Al Reinert, and Apollo 13 book author Jeffrey Kluger will be in attendance for this special event.
Attend the award presentation of the CineSpace competition at 7pm, where you’ll see screenings of the 16 finalists from the 195 submissions. Awards will be given to the top three films as judged by Levantine Arts Award recipient Richard Linklater. The CineSpace competition is a collaboration between HCAS and NASA that was created to give filmmakers the opportunity to showcase short films that use NASA imagery.
A showing of the live action short film Satellite Beach – directed by actors Luke and Andrew Wilson – will cap off the evening at 9:30pm.
