There are markets, shows, parties, holiday lighting events and more celebrating the end of fall and the start of the Christmas season. There’s still some non-holiday things to do in Houston this weekend as well, including the Houston Via Colori Street Painting Festival, the special 365 Houston Edition of Late Night at Radio Milano at the new restaurant and lounge inside Hotel Sorella in CityCentre, Air China presents Metropolis! at Miller Outdoor Theatre and many more great things to do in Houston this weekend before Thanksgiving.

  • JP Morgan Chase Observation Deck in Downtown Houston | FREE – Visit the Chase building in Downtown Houston during the take and get an almost 900-foot view of Houston landmarks from one of the 12 tallest buildings in the United States. 8am to 5pm.
  • Shark! Interactive Exhibit at HMNS – Learn the true story behind the supposed menace of the sea at an interactive exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. You can even touch a white-spotted bamboo shark and an epaulette carpet shark in specially designed low aquariums. $25; discounted $12.50 tickets available. 9am to 5pm.
  • Traditions Transfigured: The Noh Masks of Bidou Yamaguchi at Asia Society Texas Center – Take a close look at the exquisite art pieces inspired by and expanded from Japan’s dramatic Noh theater tradition and try a couple of masks on for yourself. $5; free for Asia Society members and kids 5 and under. 11am to 6pm.
  • Illuminacion: A Bayou BashRaise funds for Houston Arts Alliance at Illuminacion: A Bayou Bash, where DJ Sun will be spinning tunes as Houston artist Pablo Gimenez-Zapiola projects time-lapse and stop motion photography onto 60 foot silos. Guests will enjoy light bites from food trucks and an open bar featuring St. Arnold, Deep Eddy Vodka, SlimRitas and more. $110. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Friday Night Lights at NRG Stadium – Support DePelchin Children’s Center with an evening of dinner and dancing, music from The Spazmatics and the Houston Texans cheerleaders at the second annual Friday Night Lights event. $250. 6:30pm.
  • Book Signing by Malachi Black and Roger Reeves at Brazos Bookstore | FREE to attend – Reserve your copy of Storm Toward Morning and King Me and head to Brazos Bookstore to have it signed by authors Malachi Black and Roger Reeves. Can’t make it to the event? Brazos Bookstore can have your book signed even if you aren’t there. 7pm.
  • Alley Theatre presents A Christmas Carol at UH  Follow the classic story of Ebenezer Scrooge as he is visited by ghosts of the past, present and future in the Alley Theatre presentation of A Christmas Carol. Tickets range from $25 to $55; $55 seats are available discounted to $30 for a limited time. 7:30pm.
