What’s New to Watch This Week in Houston

  • A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood | Available Tuesday, June 2 | Hulu – Based on the life of beloved children’s television star Mr. Rogers, journalist Lloyd Vogel (Matthew Rhys) is given the task of covering the wholesome TV host for an upcoming article, but is skeptical of Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks) himself. In disbelief of Mr. Rogers perpetual good intentions, the journalist comes to the realization that Rogers kindness is indeed genuine, while having to confront, head-on, his own personal demons.
  • Fuller House: The Farewell Season Premiere | Available Tuesday, June 2 | Netflix – The sequel series to ABC’s ’80s and ’90s-era hit, Full House, comes to an end with the last nine episodes of its final season (the first nine were released in December 2019). Guaranteed to feature appearances from the original cast (except for Lori Loughlin’s “Aunt Becky” after the actress was let go following her involvement in the college admission scandals), expect over-the-top comedy bits, lots of heart, and winky asides to the viewer. With the combo of the original and expanded new cast, the final episodes are sure to pack it all before putting the final touches on the series.
  • We Are Freestyle Love Supreme Documentary Premiere | Available Friday, June 5 | Hulu – Long before celebrated Broadway musicals In The Heights and Hamilton, playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda was a member of an improv hip-hop outfit called Freestyle Love Supreme. An outlet for artists just out of college to hone their craft, We Are Freestyle Love Supreme tells a story 15 years in the making as it follows the dynamic group of performers and director Andrew Fried—first encountered in 2005—building to their highly-anticipated reunion/performance in New York City during 2019.
  • Be Our Chef: Season Finale | Available Friday, June 5 | Disney+ Inspired by the Disney universe, this competitive cooking series, brings together five families that cook to construct dishes based on by the wonderful world of Disney. Families will face off in challenges that require teamwork and the ability to learn on their feet. In the season finale, two families that have accumulated the most wins, compete for the grand prize: to have their incredible, edible creation become a dish on the menu at Walt Disney World.   • Queer Eye: Season 5 Premiere | Available Friday, June 5 | Netflix The Fab Five are back and this time around they’ve got their eyes on Philly. Grab some tissues and watch on as Antoni, Karamo, Bobby, Tan, and, of course, Jonathan Van Ness, change the lives of a select set of Philadelphians with tear-jerking makeovers, emotional pow wows, and more.
  • Gina Brillon: The Floor Is Lava Comedy Special | Available Friday, June 5 | Amazon Prime In her third stand up special, Bronx-born comedian Gina Brillon takes no prisoners while taking on her love life, childhood, cultural expectations and more. Known for her ability to roll with the punches, handles it all with her trademark, good-natured sass. Try Amazon Prime free for 30 days.
  • Yvonne Orji: Momma, I Made It Comedy Special | Available Saturday, June 6 | HBO Max – Known for her role as Molly in the HBO series Insecure, Nigerian-American actress Yvonne Orji brings her effortlessly cool acting chops to the stage (and a packed house) in her first HBO comedy special. Paying tribute to her no-nonsense upbringing, Orji Both celebrates her remarkable story that’s taken her from med school to the world of acting.
