Top 10 Things To Do for Kids & Families in Houston This Week

  • Memorial Day 10K/5K/Kids K at Houston Running Co. in Cypress | Memorial Day, Monday, May 31 – The Memorial Day holiday race will send runners down the specialized course at Houston Running Co. at 10K, 5K, and Kids K lengths. 10K participants will receive a finisher’s medal and t-shirt; Kids K participants will also receive a shirt and medal. Participants can also choose to complete a virtual race. Registration (in-person or virtual) is $40 for 5K; $50 for 10K; $20 for Kids K or Family Walk. 7:30am.
  • Memorial Day Ceremony at Sugar Land Memorial Park | Memorial Day, Monday, May 31 | FREE – The City of Sugar Land hosts the 13th Annual Sugar Land Memorial Day Ceremony, featuring patriotic vendors and booths, an official ceremony commencement, and a raising of the flag observance. Free to attend. 10am to noon.
  • Rock the Dock at Kemah Boardwalk | Thursday, June 3 | FREE – Dance away at a family-friendly concert with the return of the Rock the Dock series in Kemah. Already Gone will hit the stage, performing the greatest hits of the Eagles, as well as some original songs. 5:30pm.  
  • Love Motel for Insects: Pop-up Events at Buffalo Bayou Park | Thursday, June 3 to Saturday, June 5 | FREE – Bring the nature lover in your life for bayou bug-watching at this series of pop-up events led by artist and biologist Brandon Ballengée, who uses UV light to attract nocturnal arthropods like moths, beetles, and other critters. This event takes place at a different spot along Buffalo Bayou each night. 8pm to 10pm nightly.
  • Houston Metropolitan Dance Center presents Summer ExtravaDance at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, June 4 | FREE – Experience an evening bursting with energy, music, and the intoxicating spirit of dance when Miller Outdoor Theatre and Houston Metropolitan Dance Center present Summer ExtravaDance, featuring an array of dance genres, music, and movement. A livestream can also be viewed on Miller’s website, YouTube, and Facebook page. Seating in the covered area requires a free ticket that can be picked up in advance or at the box office; seating on the hill is free and requires no ticketing. 8:30pm.
  • Texas Taco, Tequila, and Music Festival in Conroe | Saturday, June 5 Bring the family out for a day filled with delicious tacos and margaritas for the grownups. Check out a lineup of live performances, set the kiddos loose in the kids zone, ride carnival rides, and more. Tickets start at $10. Noon.
  • AAPI Amplified at Avenida Houston | Saturday, June 5 | FREE – Rescheduled from Saturday, May 22 due to inclement weather, this Asian American Pacific Islander festival brings together cultural performances, a fashion show, a pop-up market with Asian-owned businesses, food trucks, and more at Avenida Houston in Downtown. 5pm to 8:30pm.
  • Underbelly Hospitality presents Virtual Kids’ Cooking Class | Sunday, June 6 Chef Ben Snellenberger, sous chef at Georgia James and new parent, will be hosting a kids’ cooking class in time to learn some new skills for summer. On the menu is Chris Shepherd’s Bacon Sausage to make pigs in a blanket, alongside other snacks like Yogurt Ranch Dip & Fresh Farm Veggies, and Cosmic Brownies. This event will be held online. Kits are $45 and feeds 3 to 4 kids; available for pick-up on Saturday, June 5 at Underbelly Pantry between noon and 3pm. 1pm to 2pm.
  • USPA NYTS Tournament Final at Houston Polo Club | Sunday, June 6 Here’s your last chance to catch Sunday polo action before the season closes until the fall. In addition to the tournament final, fans can enjoy live music, a champagne divot stomp, concessions from Ruth’s Chris and more. $32.50; $15 for ages 12 and under. Grandstand boxes, which include seating for 2 to 20 guests, range from $79 to $695. 5pm.
