• Woodson Black Fest at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston | Thursday, February 2 | FREE – As Black History Month kicks off in earnest, recognize and celebrate Black artists’ and artisans’ contributions at the Woodson Black Fest, in honor of the distinguished author and thinker, Carter G. Woodson. Expect spoken word, film, music, lively conversation, and a short film screening. RSVP encouraged. 6pm to 8:30pm.
• Brick Fest Live! at NRG Center | Saturday, February 4 & Sunday, February 5 – Check out creations of more than one million Lego bricks with life-size models, live stage shows, build zones, hard-to-find merch, and more. Timed entry tickets are $19.99 and up; free for ages 2 and under. Saturday 9am to 4:30pm; Sunday 10am to 4pm.
• Mardi Gras! Galveston | Friday, February 10 to Fat Tuesday, February 21 – More than 3 million beads will be thrown at Mardi Gras! Galveston—the third largest Mardi Gras celebration in the U.S. Running through Fat Tuesday, the multi-day festival features 20+ elaborate parades, headliner performances, family events, and plenty of island style feasting opportunities. $14.50 and up; free for ages 12 and under. Times vary.
• The Biggest Picnic in Texas at Memorial Park Land Bridge | Saturday, February 11 | FREE – Memorial Park Conservancy debuts the park’s new 100-acre Land Bridge and Prairie with a free picnic celebration and family-friendly entertainment, including live music, face painting, and more. H-E-B will be handing out free picnic provisions while supplies last, and everyone is invited to bring their own picnics (no glass containers permitted). Food trucks will also be selling bites on site. 10am to 5pm.
• Queso Bowl at Eureka Heights Brew Co. | Saturday, February 11 | No Cover – Bring your own recipe or just come for the tastings of the ooey, gooey queso offerings at Eureka Heights’ third annual Queso Bowl. Registration required to participate. 2pm to 5pm.
• Adam Sandler Live at Toyota Center | Monday, February 13 – The beloved actor, writer, producer and musician brings his frequently sold out tour to Houston, offering a night of his unique brand of comedy and music, accompanied by a surprise, unannounced guest. $39 and up. 7:30pm.
• Valentine’s Day at Axelrad | Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14 | No Cover – The neon beer garden in Midtown hosts an evening marketplace where you can shop gifts for your boo, catch an outdoor screening of True Romance, head upstairs for an open mic night, and enjoy special cocktail offerings and tacos from Boombox Tacos. 6pm to midnight.
• Eat Drink HTX at Multiple Locations | Wednesday, February 15 to Tuesday, February 28 – Sister event to Houston Restaurant Weeks, the food fundraiser Eat Drink HTX returns for its second year. The two-week dining event focuses on the casual restaurant category, with lower price point sets for prix fixe brunch, lunch, and dinner menus, allowing more casual and fast-casual eateries the opportunity to participate. Benefitting the Houston Food Bank and Children at Risk, this year’s roster of participants includes favorites like Craft Burger, Craft Pita, Da Gama Canteen, Daily Gather, Dak and Bop, La Calle Tacos, and more. Brunches and lunches are $15; dinners range from $20 to $25. Prices and times vary.
• Houston Roughnecks XFL Opening Day at TDECU Stadium | Saturday, February 18 – Kick-off the return of the XFL when Houston Roughnecks take on the Orlando Guardians. Coach Wade Phillips will lead the Roughnecks, who were one of the league’s best teams before the pandemic halted XFL play. $24 and up. 7:30pm.
• Broadway Across America presents Moulin Rouge! at Hobby Center | Wednesday, February 22 | Ongoing – Baz Lurhmann’s electric film comes to life onstage in this musical, complete with eye-popping visuals and over-the-top energy. This production ends Sunday, March 12. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
• World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest at NRG Park | Thursday, February 23 to Saturday, February 25 – Kicking off the rodeo every year is an epic bbq weekend—the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. More than 250 teams of barbecue enthusiasts will compete for the title, and while most team tents are invitation-only, visitors can join in on the fun at several public venues, including the carnival, the Garden, Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon and the Chuckwagon. $20; $10 for ages 3 to 12, includes a complimentary sliced brisket plate with chips and beans. • Go Texan Day around Houston | Friday, February 24 | FREE – The annual city-wide celebration returns to H-Town, inviting all Houstonians to don their best cowboy, western and Texan duds for the unofficial kickoff to Rodeo season—all day long.
• Houston Grand Opera presents Giving Voice! at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church | Friday, February 24 | FREE – The opera partners with Houston Ebony Opera Guild, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern University for this epic concert that blends opera, gospel and spirituals. Hosted by KHOU’s Len Cannon, it features renowned tenors Lawrence Brownlee and George Shirley, soprano Nicole Heaston—who the New York Times praised for her “radiant voice,”—and more. Free with registration. 7:30pm.
• Houston Rodeo: Rodeo Parade in Downtown | Saturday, February 25 | FREE – See the city’s favorite spectacle as thousands of people on horseback join decorative floats in a Saturday morning parade that celebrates the start of the 2023 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo season. The parade route begins at Bagby and Walker Streets, before traveling down stretches of Travis, Bell, Louisiana and Lamar. 10am to 2pm.
• Opening Day: Parker McCollum in Concert at NRG Stadium | Tuesday, February 28 – For the second consecutive year, the Conroe native known for hits like “Pretty Heart,” “Hell of a Year” and “Like a Cowboy” returns to the Rodeo, this time to kick off three weeks of festivities. Tickets are $20 and up, but you may find better, cheaper or hard-to-get seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. 9pm.
