  • Sassy Mamas at the Ensemble Theatre | Through Sunday, October 16 – This rom-com showcases women of a certain age and their love of younger men. With terrific warmth and wit, these “cougars” reflect on their choices and desires with candor and laugh-out-loud humor. Tickets range between $33 to $44, not including ticket fees.   • Made in Texas at the Music Box Theatre | Through Saturday, October 22 –  Celebrating the music of Texas musicians like Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Waylon Jennings, Beyonce, and Kelly Clarkson, this evening on non-stop music will make you proud you live in the Lone Star State. Tickets range between $27 to $37, not including ticket fees. Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2pm.
  • Mamma Mia! at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts | Thursday, October 6 to Sunday, October 9 – This crowd pleaser, resplendent with music from ABBA and the joyously goofy story of a girl looking to discover which one of her mom’s trysts could be her dad, is back. If you need a lift this fall, this is it. Tickets range between $15 to $39, not including ticket fees. Thursday and Sunday 7:30pm; Friday 8pm, Sunday matinee at 2pm.
  • Smokey Robinson in Concert at Jones Hall | Friday, October 7 – His music and soulful style helped define a generation and gave us insight into ourselves and our society. Join the Society for the Performing Arts as they bring a show-stopping performance by the Motown legend to Houston. Tickets range between $33 to $128, not including ticket fees. 8pm.
  • Chaos Theory at the MATCH | Saturday, October 8 – Presented by the Indo-American Association of Houston, this warm and witty play tracks the lives of two professors, from their meeting at university in Dehli to their educations in the States, with love and loss along the way. Tickets are $30, not including ticket fees. 3pm and 8pm.
  • Indigenous Origins: Of Peace and Protest at the MATCH | Saturday, October 15 – Apollo Chamber Players pays tribute to those seeking refuge in this concert featuring the works of Syrian pianist Malek Jandali and Iranian-born composer Reza Vali. For added insight, catch the pre-concert lecture at 7:30pm. Tickets are $35, not including ticket fees. 8pm.
  • Viva Latin America at the Wortham Theater Center | Sunday, October 16 – The Houston Latin American Philharmonic orchestra presents this celebration of Hispanic heritage, with a program of Bahia Blanca, Suite Guatapurí, Pajaro Campana, Barlovento, El Cumbanchero, and a tribute to Marco Antonio Muñiz (El Lujo de México). Tickets range between $25 to $65, not including ticket fees. 5pm.
  • Mx. Justin Vivian Bond: Love is Crazy at the Alley Theatre | Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21 – Lott Entertainment Presents kicks off its 2016 to 2017 season with this original work by acclaimed, Tony Award-nominated trans-genre artist, Mx. Bond. Part of the Joe’s Pub in Houston series, it’s sure to be both insightful and provoking. Tickets range between $37 to $47, not including ticket fees. Thursday and Friday 8pm.
  • Cinema Serenade at BridgePoint Bible Church | Friday, October 21 – The Energy Corridor of Houston Orchestra presents an evening of music from beloved films complete with free popcorn. Tickets are $20, not including ticket fees. 7pm.
  • Uncle Philip’s Coat at the Kaplan Theatre at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center | Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23 – Named Best Production at the 2015 United Solo Theatre Festival, this one-man play explores family and the immigrant experience. The show launches the return of a theater season at the JCC. Tickets are $30; $20 for members, not including ticket fees. Saturday 8pm; Sunday 3pm.
