  • HALS Public Train Ride Day at Zube Park | FREE – Amateur conductors can get in the locomotive action at Zube Park on the third Saturday of most months, when the Houston Area Live Steamers offer free rides to the public. All ages are welcome to ride and no reservations needed, just get in line and enjoy the 12 to 15 minute train ride. 9am to 1pm.
  • Go Bananas Festival at Houston Botanic Garden – Dedicated to the curved yellow fruit, the day  features live music and activities that include sampling a variety of bananas, judging a banana bread baking competition, learning how to grow them at home, and more. $15. 9am to 2pm.
  • Mid-Autumn Festival at Children’s Museum Houston – The kids HQ and the Vietnamese Culture and Science Association celebrate mid-autumn—at the end of summer—with hands-on activities, storytelling, lion dance, contests, and more. $19.95. 9am to 5pm.
  • Texian Navy Day Boat Parade Along Pier 21 | FREE – Catch a procession of decorated boats as the pass by Pier 21 at Galveston’s historic seaport, honoring the Texas Navy which has protected the coast since 1835. 10am.
  • Yoga in the Bamboo Garden at Asia Society Texas – Lost Lotus Yoga Studio leads attendees through a series of poses suitable for all fitness levels in a 60-minute session, surrounded by the serenity of Asia Society’s beautiful garden. Bring your own mat and water. $10. 10am.
  • Sugar Land Fall Fest at Sugar Land Town Square | FREE – Bring the whole family and come out for this day of fun activities, games, and more, hosted by the Sugar Land Parks and Recreation Department. 10am to 3pm.
  • Hispanic Heritage Celebration at Sabo Kroger | FREE – The recently debuted Hispanic concept Kroger on Sam Houston Parkway and Sabo Road celebrates Latin heritage and culture with a day of live music, giveaways, tasty food samples, creative face painting, and a playful kids zone. 10am to 4pm.
  • Pirate n’ Mermaid Day at the Woodlands Children’s Museum – Navigate your way through the museum to search for buried treasure. There are pirate and mermaid meet-and-greets, and other nautical-themed fun. $9. 10am to 5pm.
  • Shop Local Market 1 Year Anniversary at Houston Farmers Market | FREE – The Greater Heights retail shop, HQ for the Shop Local Markets you see all over the city, hosts a day-long anniversary celebration featuring  tasty bites and sips from local vendors, music spun by live DJs, raffles for prizes throughout the day, and more activities. 10am to 6pm.
  • Comic Indie Con at Silver Street Studios – Meet up with other creators, get tips on story and marketing, and check out a contest for kids who created their own comics. The day-long session is designed to help new and established artists connect, and discover the fun world of comic creation. $11.50. 10:30am to 5:30pm.
  • Buffalo Bayou East: Japhet Creek Park Opening Celebration | FREE – Check out the newest entry in Buffalo Bayou East’s expansion at a family friendly introductory party along the historic Fifth Ward tributary, with live music by Step Rideau and The Zydeco Outlaws, food and drink, face-painting, community organizations and vendors, and more. 11am to 2pm.
  • Professional Sandcastle Building Lessons at East Beach | FREE – Learn tricks and tools of the trade from the pros at weekly walk-up sandcastle building lessons on East Beach. 11am; 1pm and 3pm.
  • Oktoberfest at SpindleTap Brewery | No Cover – The North Houston brewery kicks off a slate of festivities including a best Bavarian-dressed competition, German-inspired foods, $1 off Festbier, games like stein holding, contests and more. 11am to 10pm.
  • Drag Queen Brunch at Chapman & Kirby – Enjoy a tasty brunch buffet in EaDo while soaking in some of Houston’s most talented drag performers as they dazzle with their incredible lip-syncing, dancing and comedy routines. $35. Noon.
  • B52 Oktoberfest at B52 Brewing | No Cover – Enjoy German brews and traditional foods amongst the trees at the Conroe brewery’s annual Oktoberfest celebration, featuring live music, stein-hoisting and barrel roll competitions, a best-dressed contest and more. Drink bundles are $30. Noon to 9pm.
  • Text Collage at CAMH | FREE – Join in a drop-in, hands-on class, collaborating on a text-based collage to encourage dialogue on present-day challenges and important current events. 1pm to 4pm.
  • Oktoberfest 2024 at Little Woodrow’s Midtown | No Cover – Midtown’s turtle racing headquarters goes full Deutsch with beer tastings and giveaways, followed by a stein-hoisting competition, DJ tunes, and more. 2pm to 5pm.
  • Flea by Night at Discovery Green | FREE – The uber-popular market returns to Downtown, allowing guests to treasure hunt for one-of-a-kind vintage, handmade, recycled and local goods while enjoying food trucks and music. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Houston’s Astronomical Society Star Party at the Park at Memorial Park | FREE – Meet knowledgeable astronomers who’ll guide you through a viewing of the constellations, planets, and other celestial objects. Everyone with an interest in astronomy, from beginners to advanced, are welcome. 7pm.
  • Houston Dash vs. Seattle Reign at Shell Energy Stadium – Root for the Houston’s women’s professional soccer team as they battle the ladies of Seattle. $12 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Houston Chamber Choir: The Son of Man at South Main Baptist Church – This world premiere by English composer Patrick Hawes is based on iconic texts from the Old and New Testaments. It’s a sweeping, powerful work for choir, soloists and orchestra very much of our time, yet reminiscent of Handel’s Messiah. $45. 7:30pm.
  • Glass Animals in Concert at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion – Fresh off the summer release of their fourth studio album, I Love You So F***king Much, the English alternative indie rock band out of Oxford lands on the Woodlands stage. $30 and up. 7:45pm.
  • Houston Latin Jazz Orchestra: The Latin Side of Houston at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE – Experience a concert honoring Houston’s legendary musicians, reimagining their music in a Latin jazz setting. Experience a distinct, Latin take on songs by The Crusaders, Joe Sample, Beyoncé, and more. 8pm.
  • Kishi Bashi in Concert at Last Concert Cafe – The indie singer, multi-instrumentalist, and lands in Houston in support of his latest album, Kantos—a party album about the possible end of humanity as we know it, at turns deeply unsettling and sublimely joyful. $22. 9pm.
  • 46th Anniversary Party at Numbers  – The Montrose nightclub institution throws an anniversary bash, celebrating more than four decades of dancing and music. Expect nostalgia, prizes and more. Cover TBD. 9pm to 2am.
  • Performing Arts Houston: Diana Haddad & Ali Saber in Concert at the Wortham Center  – Lebanese actress, singer, and television personality Diana Haddad and Iraqi musician Ali Saber perform live. Hadid is among the Arab world’s most successful singers and Saber is known for songs like “Daiman,” “Yeraqbni” and “Dawaat Ommi,” among others. $55 and up. 9:30pm.
  • Ficheras, A Latin Live Band & Burlesque Show at Social Beer Garden | No Cover – Get ready for a festive evening with this Latin live band and burlesque show, featuring Latin beats, dancing, and showgirls. Doors at 9pm; show at 11pm.
