  • Camel & Ostrich Racing at Sam Houston Race Park | Friday & Saturday – Take in Houston’s Best Bet, with an exhibition of camel and ostrich racing mixed in with thoroughbred horse racing. $5. 6:30pm Friday; 11am Saturday.
  • Comedian Katie Hannigan at the Riot Comedy Club | Friday & Saturday – A stand-up comic, actor and writer, Hannigan has been featured on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central, Just For Laughs, and more. Catch her unique exploration on life, relationships and more. $20 and up. Times vary.
  • 87th Azalea Trail in River Oaks | Friday to Sunday – Hosted by the River Oaks Garden Club, this annual multi-stop tour invites the public to explore seven gardens across the River Oaks area—including four private home gardens. $30; complimentary round-trip shuttle will offer travel to all locations. 11am to 5pm.
  • Jurassic World: The Exhibition at Katy Mills | Opens Friday – The limited engagement exhibit, based on one of the biggest blockbusters in cinema history, allows guests to walk through the iconic Jurassic World gate and come face-to-face with life-sized dinosaurs, such as the towering Brachiosaurus, Velociraptors, and the fearsome Tyrannosaurus Rex. $24 and up. Times vary.
  • Comedian René Vaca at Houston Improv | Friday to Sunday – The comedian and recent winner of the 16th annual StandUp NBC competition comes to Houston for a weekend of shows at the Improv. The San Fernando Valley native has built a following with his stand-up comedy clips, reaching millions of views across his social media channels. $70 for 2, and up. Times vary.
  • Supersized Spring Break at Moody Gardens | Saturday & Sunday – The Galveston attraction is offering a special 1-Day Pass that includes unlimited admission to the Aquarium and Rainforest pyramids, Discovery Museum, Colonel Paddlewheel Boat, the 4D Special FX films Octopus: Blue Planet II 4D Experience and DC League of Super-Pets 4D, and more. Look for special golf clinics, seasonal promotions, and other add-ons. $80. Times vary.

  • Creative Embroidery on Wool Balls Class at Glassell Studio School – This nine-week class open to all skill levels kicks off on Thursday morning, offering attendees the opportunity to learn a variety of hand-stitching techniques, including embroidering, appliqué, beadwork and fabric manipulation. $400. 9am.
  • Pop Up on the Plaza at Midtown Park | FREE – This event allows visitors to experience local food trucks, music, local vendors, lawn games, and picture-worthy moments at Midtown Park. It’s a great chance to end the workday outside and take advantage of the warming weather. 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
  • International Women’s Day at Rothko Chapel – The Montrose landmark for quietude celebrates International Women’s Day with a a panel discussion about women’s leadership in labor organizing movements, featuring renowned civil rights activist Dolores Huerta. Learn about labor issues, how to get involved, and how to join in community building to achieve organizing goals. Tickets are pay-what-you-can, registration required. 6pm.
  • DaCamera Young Artist Concert at Holocaust Museum Houston | FREE – Inspired by the exhibition The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection on display at Holocaust Museum Houston, this concert features collaborative works by Joseph Bologne, William Grant Still, Jessie Montgomery, and Houstonian jazz pianist and composer, Brooke Wyatt. Registration requested. 6:30pm.
  • Taste of Nobu with Chef Nobu Matsuhisa at Nobu Houston – In celebration of 30 years of the Nobu brand, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa has embarked on a journey across the states to commemorate scenes of Nobu throughout the years. His Houston stop features a special evening of signature canapes, live chef stations and handcrafted cocktails. $250. 6:30pm.
  • Alan Cumming is Not Acting His Age at Hobby Center – The Tony Award winner comes to Houston to talk about everything, from the time the mom from the Brady Bunch punched him to what his dog has taught him about the quality of life. Expect song selections from Cabaret along with stories and an irreverent wit. $54 and up. 7pm.
  • The Kills in Concert at House of Blues – The rock duo comes to Houston, fresh off the release of their latest album, God Games. Their first new album in seven years, Glide Magazine called it “a dark album that pushed [them] even further as artists.” $39.50 and up. 7pm.    
  • Comedian Uncle Lazer at Houston Improv – The Texas native and comedian talks everything from terrible dating experiences to unapologetic feel-good stories of coming up in the South, in an act that’s laced with over-the-top energy that taps into his blue collar upbringing. $50 for two. 7:30pm.
  • Pink Floyd Tribute Rooftop Concert at Post Houston – Experience a tribute to the legendary British psychedelic group, Pink Floyd, at Post Houston’s Skylawn with a performance from Pigs on the Wall. They’ll sing the band’s biggest hits and deep tracks, in an evening concert under the stars. $20 and up. 8pm.
  • Rodeo Houston: Luke Bryan in Concert at NRG Stadium – This inaugural Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Rodeo spotlights the tens of thousands of volunteers that make the Rodeo run every year. Country star Luke Bryan, with hits like “Country Girl” and “Buy Dirt,” makes his 11th appearance on the famous rotating stage. $25 and up. 9pm.
  • Elli Acula DJ Set at Bauhaus Houston – The German self-described rebel, dreamer and night owl brings her groovy, powerful sounds of techno, rave, breakbeat, electro and jungle to Houston. $15 and up. 10pm.

Friday, March 8, 2024

  • Cup of Joey at the Ion | FREE – Come to the Midtown incubation space, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet new people and expand your current networks, talk about tech, inspire innovation, and create community. It’s the perfect spot to get fired up about what’s happening in innovation. Registration requested. 8:30am to 10:30am.
  • Storybook Theatre presents There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight at the Woodlands Children’s Museum – Children will delight in Penny Parker Klostermann’s funny, wacky tale of an old dragon in medieval times who just about swallows a whole kingdom. Get ready for giggles as Storybook Theatre brings this charming children’s book to life. $9 for ages 1 and up. 11am.
  • Sisters of the Road: International Women’s Day Celebration & FotoFest Launch at Sawyer Yards | FREE – A new immersive exhibition highlighting women truckers kicks off its U.S. tour with an opening night celebration.Guests can meet a real female trucker and tour her truck. Plus there will be an artist, curator, trucker talk. Sisters of the road will be on view daily through Wednesday, March 13, 2024. 6pm to 8pm.
  • Barcelona Barbecue at Central Market Houston – In this hands-on class, you’ll create an enticing menu of Spanish favorites, including Pan de Tomate (grilled bread rubbed with garlic and tomatoes), Serrano ham-wrapped asparagus, grilled steaks with Spanish blue cheese butter and more. Ages 18 and up; those 21 and older get sangria with their meal. $85. 6:30pm.
  • 2024 Oscar-Nominated Short Films at Museum of Fine Arts, Houston – Head to the museum’s movie theater for the annual showing of this year’s nominees in short, live-action film. The screening includes Invincible (Canada); Knight of Fortune (Denmark); Red, White and Blue (USA); The After (United Kingdom) and The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (United Kingdom/USA). $9. 7pm.
  • Comedian Danish Maqbool at the Secret Group – The New Jersey-born comedian, who has been featured on Ramy, performs live in EaDo. He’ll offer up his unique and funny take on life and society. $20 and up. 7pm.
  • Lets Do This Houston’s ’90s R&B Night Light Bike Ride – Guests will be able to vibe to their favorite ’90s R&B songs on a music-themed bike ride, cruising to destinations such as Discovery Green, Third Ward, Midtown, and the Museum District. $12 and up. 7pm.
  • Houston Grand Opera presents Giving Voice at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church | FREE – Created in 2019 by American tenor Lawrence Brownlee, the fifth annual iteration of this concert highlights the artistry and contributions of Black women in opera and the Houston community. 7:30pm.
  • KSBJ presents We Are Messengers in Concert at the Woodlands Church – The chart-topping Christian band, with hits like “Come What May,” “Image of God,” “Wholehearted” and more brings their high-energy set to the Woodlands. $35 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Bob Schneider in Concert at the Heights Theater – Catch the Austin singer-songwriter, known for songs like “40 Dogs,” “Big Blue Sea” and “Honey Pot,” who’s in Houston for a live set. NPR noted that “Schneider’s voice rings with convincing sincerity,” and The Indy Review pointed to his career of “songs filled with hooks, humor and pathos.” $24. 8pm.
  • Hunxho & Friends in Concert at Warehouse Live Midtown – Best known for his hit song “Let’s Get It,” the Atlanta rapper performs live with special guests. Broadway World called his Atlanta show last month “an unforgettable set.” $40 and up. 8pm.
  • Rodeo Houston: Major Lazer in Concert at NRG Stadium – The EDM trio, which includes Diplo, Walshy Fire and Houston-native Ape Drums, makes their Rodeo debut with a blend of genres that touches on reggae and dancehall, soca, house and beyond. $25 and up. 9pm.
  • The Silos in Concert at Continental Club – The Midtown live music venue welcomes New York’s post-punk ‘80s band. The Los Angeles Times lauded their ability for “turning up the volume and intensity,” while The Alternate Root noted they are “the darlings of critics and connoisseurs of authentic heartland rock and roll.” $15 and up. 9pm. 
  • Armnhmr DJ Set at Stereo Live – The West Houston nightclub welcomes the Los Angeles DJ/producer duo for a live set. From their days as underground amateur artists to becoming widely lauded professionals, the duo has held onto their signature blending of EDM subgenres such as future bass, trance, and dubstep. $19.99 and up. 10pm to 2am.
