  • Tree Planting Workshop at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center – In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn best practices for tree planting: how to pick the right location, prepping the site, digging the right hole, and post-planting care to give the trees you plant the best chance at survival. 10am to noon.
  • College Basketball: Houston Cougars vs. Kansas State at Fertitta Center – The Coogs face the Kansas State Wildcats before heading on the road for tough games against Texas and Kansas. $20 and up. 11am.
  • Australia Day Celebration at Platypus Brewing | No Cover – The Arts District brewery hosts this fun-filled day celebrating Australia Day with a live band, a DJ, food, drinks, and games. The holiday marks Australia’s official national day, celebrating the country’s diversity and rich past. Noon.
  • Houston Grand Opera presents Sing! Move! Play! At Levy Park | FREE – This family-friendly event showcases some of opera’s greatest hits, engaging children in a series of workshops filled with singing, movement and creativity. It’s a great way to introduce the kiddos to the art form; parents and caregivers who are opera curious will learn things, too. Noon.
  • Taylor Swift Comic Book Signing at Bedrock City Comic Co. | No Cover – Swifties and comic book collectors alike should head to the Westheimer store for the launch of exclusive variant covers of the Taylor Swift comic book. Cover artist Pablo Villalobos will greet fans and sign copies. Noon to 3pm. 
  • 2nd Annual Stout Fest at Excalibur Brewing – The Spring brewery offers a sampling of stouts from Houston spots like Brash Brewery, Brew 30 Taphouse, Equal Parts Brewing and more, plus live music and food vendors. $45 and up. Noon to 6pm.
  • Color Me: Drop-In Experience at Contemporary Arts Museum Houston | FREE – Learn about Six Scenes From Our Future artist JooYoung Choi’s characters in this afternoon of coloring pages from The Cosmic Womb Coloring Book. Guests can purchase the full coloring book in the museum’s gift shop. 1pm to 4pm.
  • 5th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off at Cedar Creek Bar & Grill – The annual event features delicious gumbo from breweries and gumbo enthusiasts. You can also expect live music, games, drinks, and more. $35 and up. 1pm to 6pm.
  • Year of the Dragon 2024 Celebration at Katy Mills Mall | FREE – Take a break from shopping and join Soaring Phoenix Dragon and Lion Dance Association in the mall’s Neighborhood 2for a traditional Lion Dance to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. 2pm.
  • Corazón: A HeART Gallery at the Whimsy Artisan Boutique | FREE – Check out this exhibit of heart-themed artwork made by local artists at the Heights boutique. It’s a chance to see how deeply heart images and shapes are woven into the creative process. 3pm.
  • Traveling on a City at Sea: The Story of the Battleship Texas at Galveston Railroad Museum – Travis Davis, Vice President of Ship Operations for the Battleship Texas Foundation, will give an hour-long presentation about the ships’ restoration and future plans. The talk is held in conjunction with the museum’s exhibit, Traveling on a City at Sea: The Story of the Battleship Texas. Included with museum admission which is buy-one-get-one free for Galveston Museum Day. $12. 3pm.
  • Author Crystal Allen at Blue Willow Bookshop | FREE – The Texas author signs and discusses her latest novel, Between Two Brothers. Inspired by actual events, it’s a story of forgiveness and the power of a family’s unconditional love. Allen is the author of How Lamar’s Bad Prank Won a Bubba-Sized Trophy and the Magnificent Mya Tibbs series. Free to attend; though books for signing must be purchased from the store. 5pm.
  • ROCO Connections: Blossoms at Rienzi – Part of the ensemble’s collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, this concert celebrates Rienzi’s 25th anniversary as a house museum. The performance features Charles Loeffler’s Rhapsodies and the world premiere of Nicky Sohn’s Colors of Life’s Garden, inspired by the plants and flowers in the 4.4-acre Rienzi Garden. $45. 5pm.
  • Houston Grand Opera presents Parsifal at Wortham Center – Wagner’s final opera is the story of a group of knights trying to protect the Holy Grail and their king. Tenor Russell Thomas, soprano Elena Pankratova and bass-baritone Ryan McKinny lead a killer cast in this extraordinary epic. This production runs through Sunday, February 4. $25 and up. 6pm.
  • In the Lone Star Wars State Movie Screening at Houston Toy Museum – Catch an exclusive screening of this documentary film followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Alejandro Cabrera. The doc is a love letter to the Star Wars fandom in Texas, exploring its unique connection to the Western genre. The epic, inspiring story follows several Texans, sharing their personal experiences and intimate stories of fandom. $16; includes museum admission. 6pm.
  • Noah Reid in Concert at House of Blues – Best known for playing David Rose’s business partner Patrick Brewer on the beloved television comedy Schitt’s Creek, the singer-songwriter brings his Everything Is Fine’ Tour to Downtown. He’ll be joined by Wyatt C. Louis. $39 and up. 7pm.
  • Listening While Muslim: Palestine Edition at MATCH – Asad Ali Jafri (aka DJ Ase Wonder) and Abdul-Rehman Malik host this sonic soul journey that crosses continents, languages, and genres, exploring music at the intersection of faith, culture, and politics. Explore the centrality of Palestine to peace movements and social justice, as articulated in music and art. $25. 7:30pm.
  • Comedian George Lopez at Smart Financial Centre – Known to deliver a punch line with a facial expression, the comedian brings his “Alllriiiighhttt” show to Sugar Land. It’s an opportunity for fans to enjoy his unique style of humor, with raw, real-life stories accompanied by a hilarious punchline. $43 and up. 8pm.
  • A Tribute to Whitney Houston with Belinda Davids at the Grand 1894 Opera House – Powerhouse vocalist Belinda Davids breathes new life into Whitney Houston’s legendary body of work alongside a live band, backing vocalists, and choreographed dancers in this tribute concert. $36 and up. 8pm.
  • James McMurtry at Continental Club – The self-proclaimed rock and roots guitarist, and son of one of America’s most celebrated and prolific writers, troubadour James McMurtry takes up the storytelling mantle through song as he brings his band to the Mid-Main stage. $20 and up. 9pm.

  • Menardi Gras! Celebration at the 1838 Menard House – Launch into the Fat Tuesday season with Galveston Historical Foundation’s Sunday morning affair boasting a Bloody Mary bar, an elevated brunch, live jazz, and more. $100. 11am to 1pm; GHF members are welcomed with early entry at 10:30am.
  • Bellaire Open Air Valentine Market at Evelyn’s Park | No Cover – Make your Valentine’s Day shopping a breeze in the open air while supporting local artisans and food vendors at Evelyn’s Park. You’ll find unique items suitable for your sweetheart and other loved ones. Noon to 4pm.
  • Heavy Metal Market & Oddities at Moon Tower Inn | No Cover – Heavy metal enthusiasts can expect a treasure of cool merchandise, records, and more at this market in East End. It’s an opportunity to shop for one-of-a-kind items and collectibles, and spend time with other genre enthusiasts. 1pm to 4pm.
  • Main Street Theater presents The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe at MATCH – Adapted from the beloved C.S. Lewis novel, this is the story of the four British siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, who discover a wardrobe that proves to be the entrance to the world of Narnia. This production runs through Sunday, February 18. $20 and up. 2:30pm.
  • 24th Annual Hear the Future Invitational Choral Festival at South Main Baptist Church | FREE – This choral festival brings together 11 area school choirs to sing and learn together at South Main Baptist Church. Choral enthusiasts are welcome. 4pm.
  • Music in Context presents A Concert of Schubert at Rice University’s Alice Pratt Brown Hall – The ensemble brings to life some of the composer’s most elegant works of Romanticism, including Variations in A-flat Major for Piano Four-hands, and Trio in E-flat Major for Violin, Cello and Piano. $35. 4pm.
  • Gorod in Concert at White Oak Music Hall – White Oak welcomes the death metal band, Gorod for a live performance. Angry Metal Guy praised their album Æthra for its “razor-sharp riffing, sick harmonies and a techy sound.” Wormhole, Hath, The Zebellian Triangle, and Crimson Void open the show. $10. 6pm.
  • Finding Light Movie Screening at Holocaust Museum Houston | FREE – Commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day with this movie that tells the remarkable story of Holocaust survivor Naomi Warren. The movie is followed by a Q&A with film director Paul Michael Bloodgood, Benjamin Warren, and Stephen Mills, choreographer of Light / The Holocaust & Humanity Project. RSVP requested. 6:30pm.
  • Nat & Alex Wolff at House of Blues – The actor brothers who together starred in Nickelodeon’s The Naked Brothers Band, come to Downtown for a night of their indie pop tunes. $20 and up. 7pm.
  • Collin Raye in Concert at Main Street Crossing – The Tomball music venue welcomes the multi-platinum country music recording artist, known for songs like “In This Life,” “One Boy, One Girl,” “If You Get There Before I Do” and other hits, for a live performance. $85 and up. 7pm.
