• Vincent Victoria presents Love, Marriage & Heartbreak at Midtown Art Center | Daily | Ongoing – Culled from the slave narratives obtained during the 1930s and adding a modern backdrop, the play shares tales of love, marriage and the many heartbreaks experienced by enslaved African Americans in the American South before emancipation in 1865. $25; $20 for students and 65+. 8pm; Sunday 3pm.
• Pictures from Home at Alley Theatre | Daily | Ongoing – This work began its life at the 2020 Alley All New Festival and went on to garner acclaim on Broadway. It’s the story of a photographer, who begins taking photos of his parents to help discover the stories and truths behind their home movies. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
• A.D. Players presents Steel Magnolias at the George Theater | Daily | Ongoing – The beloved play about a group of women who gather in Truvy’s beauty shop is both hilarious and heartbreaking. It centers on the story of Shelby, who risks her life to have a baby, and how the women of the shop rally around her and her family. $30 and up. Showtimes vary.
• The Riot Comedy Club presents Sammy Obeid at Rudyard’s Pub | Friday & Saturday – Seen on Netflix, Last Comic Standing, and Conan, the comedian now comes to Houston for back-to-back nights. Known for his comedy album, Get Funny or Die Tryin, Obeid’s craft has been described by the New York Times as “an analytic style full of wordplay, clever misdirection and ethnic humor riffing on his Middle Eastern roots.” $25 and up. 7pm and 9pm.
• Operativo Houston presents Suor Angelica at Houston Saengerbund | Friday & Saturday – Catch a one-act Puccini opera when Operativo Houston brings the Italian work to the stage in the Heights. $25 and up. Showtimes vary.
• Houston Home & Garden Show at NRG Park | Friday to Sunday – From inside to outside, this event covers gardens, home tips, celebrity speakers, pet adoption and more. $10; free for ages 16 and under. Times vary.
• 113th Annual Mardi Gras! Galveston in Downtown Galveston | Friday to Sunday – The Island hosts the third largest Mardi Gras celebration in the country with parades, live entertainment, street food vendors and much more. Stay for the entire weekend and collect your beads for bragging rights with all the partygoers while enjoying all the party atmosphere. $14 and up; free for ages 12 and under. Multi-day packages and VIP Balcony Party options available. Times vary.
• Humble Rodeo at Humble Civic Center | Friday to Sunday – This Humble tradition since 1947 delivers all that entails a fabulous family-fun rodeo from competitions to pageants, concerts, calf scrambles, mutton bustin’, and chute dogging. Events for the Rodeo and BBQ Cook-Off raise money for Humble ISD’s Education Foundation. $20 and up; free for ages 5 and under. Friday and Saturday 5pm to 11:30pm; Sunday noon to 6:30pm.
• Comedian Lil Sasquatch at Houston Improv | Friday to Sunday – This man of many talents including podcaster of The Yak on Barstool Sports, and host of his own Son of a Boy Dad podcast. Lil Sasquatch comes to the Houston Improv to share his thoughts on the world around us, including life as a Buffalo Bills fan. $50 for 2, and up. Times vary.
• Brickfest Live at NRG Center | Saturday & Sunday – Lego fanatics, this is your jam with over a million bricks on display and ready for play in addition to life-size models, hands-on attractions, shopping hard-to-find merch, and the chance to build a Guinness World Record–setting mosaic. $19.99 and up; free for ages 2 and under. Saturday 9am to 6pm; Sunday 10am to 5pm.
• Haha Real at Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern | Saturday & Sunday | Opening Weekend – An original, site-specific media installation in the Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern, Haha Real takes inspiration from the classic children’s story, The Velveteen Rabbit. Artist Rachel Rossin transforms the Cistern into an unexpected world where nothing is quite as it appears. $15; advance tickets encouraged. Ages 9 and up. 11am to 5:30pm
