All Bars Closed Again Due to Order by Texas Governor Abbott

As of noon on Friday, June 25, 2020, all bars and establishments that make 51% or more of their income on alcohol sales must close for the time being, on the order of Governor Greg Abbott.

Meanwhile, many restaurants have voluntarily and temporarily closed in response to an employee who tested positive for COVID-19, or in an effort to test all staff before reopening.

Also on Friday, June 25, 2020, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo issued a Stay at Home order for Harris County, citing that Houston’s COVID-19 threat level has reached Code Red.

Masks Protect the Community

Masks are mandated for entering all business across the City of Houston and Harris County (through at least Tuesday, June 30, 2020) in order to reduce the spread of the virus which is growing faster in Houston than the rest of Texas.

Local business owners, many already struggling, face a $1000 fine if they do not enforce this ruling. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has confirmed that local governments can mandate that counties and cities can enforce this rule and has asked that all Texans wear a mask in public, as Texas and Houston has quickly become a hotspot for cases of COVID-19.

Given the surge of cases in the Houston area, it is expected that the mask order will be extended into July.
