Over in the ever-popular neighborhood of Montrose lies an offbeat stretch of city, lined with thrift shops and boutiques, dive bars, cafes, and patio hangouts, and some of the city’s best restaurants.
The Westheimer Curve sits on Lower Westheimer running between Montrose and Dunlavy, and it makes a perfect choice for Sunday Funday. Here’s how to spend it:

Go beast mode on Hugo’s Sunday brunch buffet
Chef Hugo Ortega’s namesake restaurant is the place for Sunday brunch, with a bounteous buffet featuring regional Mexican plates. Fill up on Ceviches and Tostada, Chilaquiles and Chile Relleno, Lamb Barbacoa and fall-apart tender Lechon, and Churros with Dulce de Leche. Brunch runs from 10am to 2pm. Other standout dining options include Brasil, Burger Joint, Common Bond, Empire Cafe, Ramen Tatsu-Ya, Rosie Cannonball, Traveler’s Table, and Uchi.
Slurp down Oyster Shooters at Acme Oyster House
Let the good times (and the oysters) roll at this New Orleans oyster house. Spend your Sunday Funday slurping down Gulf Oysters—ice-cold and raw or charbroiled and butter-smothered—and tack on specialties from Crawfish Dip and Boom Boom Shrimp to Seafood Gumbo and “10 Napkin” Roast Beef Po-boys.
Hop from funky dives and patio hangouts to wine and cocktail bars
Watering holes are aplenty in this tiny but mighty stretch of the city. Start with a refreshing bevy on the patio at the Palm Springs-inspired Present Company or on the rooftop at Idle Hands; hit up cocktail kingpin Bobby Heugel’s duo of excellent establishments, O.G. cocktail joint Anvil and its ambitious little sibling, formal cocktail bar Refuge; hit up low-key dives Boondocks, Catbirds, and whiskey and vintage pinball spot Poison Girl; pop down the road for tequila and tacos at Pistolero’s or patio hangout La Grange; and sip through a fantastic selection of vino at favorite wine bars Camerata and Montrose Cheese & Wine.
Escape the heat and shoot pool at Slick Willies
This classic pool hall rocks over 20 tables, pinball and air hockey machines, darts, a full-service bar and “pool hall pizza,” and good times running ‘til 2am.
Score late-night eats at BB’s Tex-Orleans
Night owls can take solace in the fact that this cult favorite Tex-Cajun cafe is open ‘til 3am on Sundays. Soak up the day’s decisions with eats from Seafood Po’Boys and Chicken & Waffles to Burgers and the must-have Tex-Cajun Fries, shoestrings smothered in queso, gravy, and roast beef debris. Looking for something sweet? The nearby Voodoo Doughnut is open 24/7.
