Pile on the beads as Mardi Gras festivites level up this year with parades, parties and concerts returning to eager crowds ready for revelry.
Mardi Gras headquarters is in Galveston, which celebrates its 111th celebration with balcony parties, live music and other official events stretched across two weekends and Fat Tuesday.
But there’s plenty more Mardi Gras fun to be had around Greater Houston and Galveston. We’ve gathered ten upcoming celebrations for you to “laissez les bons temps rouler”—and keep an eye out as we’ll continue to add more once they are announced.
Mardi Gras 2022 Events in Houston & Galveston
- Menardi Gras at the 1838 Menard House in Galveston | Friday, February 11 – The site of the island’s first Mardi Gras celebration in 1853, the Menard House once again hosts a night of food, fun and frivolity at the oldest residence in Galveston, headlined by music from the N.O. Hustlers Brass Band. $65 per person; $110 for a couple’s reservation. 7pm to 9pm.
- 111th Celebration of Mardi Gras! Galveston | Friday, February 18 to Fat Tuesday, March 1 – Over 3 million beads will be thrown at Texas’ largest Mardi Gras celebration, with the lineup of festivities including elaborate parades, headliner performances and concerts, balcony parties, masked balls, an official 5K run, family events, and plenty of feasting across two weekends and on Fat Tuesday. Ticket prices for party passes, balcony tickets, and general admission vary. Times vary.
- Mardi Gras Celebration at Kemah Boardwalk | Saturday, February 19 | FREE – Head down to the boardwalk and enjoy an all-day family-friendly celebration with music on the Plaza Stage from 3 Spot 12 and Flashpoint, plus kids crafts and a yachty gras boat parade at 7pm. Noon to 8pm.
- Shadow Puppet Theatre presents Dinosaur Mardi Gras at the Woodlands Children’s Museum | Thursday, February 24 – A great way for kids to be introduced to storytelling through interaction and animated shadows, the Shadow Puppet Theatre takes on Dinosaur Mardi Gras by Dianne de Las Casas, about some dinos that join in on the celebration during carnival time in New Orleans. Included with general admission; $7 for ages 1 and up. 11am.
- Mardi Gras of Southeast Texas at the Event Centre in Beaumont | Thursday, February 24 to Sunday, February 27 – Downtown Beaumont hosts multiple days of Mardi Gras revelry, with parades and live concerts from country artist Tyler Farr, rapper Nelly, and the Selena Experience from Los Chicos del 512. Plus, try your hand at carnival games, hop on rides, and enjoy other family-friendly fun all weekend long. $10 on Thursday and Sunday; $15 on Friday and Saturday; $40 for a 4-day pass. Times vary.
- Beads & Bark in the Park at League Park | Saturday, February 26 | FREE – In League City, this first annual gumbo competition takes place alongside a pet costume contest, live music, food trucks, crafts and kids activities, and more. $5 entry for the pet costume contest; $15 for a gumbo sampling wristband. 10am to 2pm.
- Mardi Gras Brunch at B&B Butchers & Restaurant | Saturday, February 26 | No Cover – Dig into a festive brunch to kick off Mardi Gras at the Washington Ave eatery and butchery, where you can enjoy New Orleans-inspired dishes, specialty cocktails, face painting, dueling pianos and special swag. Menu prices vary. 11am to 3pm.
- Mardi Gras Festival & Parade at Town Center Park in Kingwood | Saturday, February 26 | FREE – Get in the spirit of the season with a Mardi Gras parade around the public park, along with live music from Leroy Thomas, tunes by DJ Andy Rodrigues, and more at Kingwood’s signature Mardi Gras event. 11am to 6pm.
- Mardi Gras Celebration & Market at the Powder Keg | Saturday, February 26 | No Cover – In Memorial City, you can get the good times rolling at this open-air complex serving up local beer and spirits at Powder Keg, along with all sorts of revelry like food trucks, volleyball, corn hole, games and a local vendor market. Prizes will go to Best Mask, plus there will be other activities and giveaways. 1pm to 8pm.
- Fat Tuesday Mardi Craw at the Rustic | Fat Tuesday, March 1 | No Cover – The Downtown and Post Oak locations of this brunch spot and music hall will go all out with a crawfish boil, complete with chicken and sausage jambalaya, fried crawfish tails, étouffée, frozen drinks and more. Menu prices vary. 11am.
