Mix and mingle over an old school game with a newfound spin as with Major League Bocce Houston’s spring and summer leagues, with Tuesday night games at Brooklyn Athletic Club.
Major League Bocce, the nation’s largest organized bocce league, arrives in Houston this spring, introducing young and outgoing professional men and women to a modern take on an old world classic.
Long thought of as a game only played by older, Italian men, bocce has been successfully revamped and Major League Bocce has been attracting thousands of young 20- and 30-something professionals to the sport in major cities across the country.
The Game of Bocce – Old and New
Once associated with older Italian men, the game of Bocce has been revitalized. Casual yet competitive, bocce makes for a great social sport for a number of reasons: men and women are on equal footing, age is not an issue, and no prerequisite athletic ability is required. If you can roll a ball, you play.
With Major League Bocce Houston, teams of five will compete in weekly league play at Brooklyn Athletic Club on Richmond, where Montrose turns into Midtown. Beyond taking home a win, people join the bocce league to make new friends, play for charity and provide a weekly excuse to get together and play at a favorite local watering hole. Games last 45 minutes and are played to 14 points. Before, during and following games, league members are invited to enjoy beer and food specials.
“Major League Bocce is a great way to make new friends, connect with old friends and put some action into your week-night happy hours,” said Sarah DeLucas, president of Major League Bocce.
