- Broadway Across America: Beetlejuice at Hobby Center | Tuesday, March 5 to Sunday, March 10 – Based on Tim Burton’s kooky film, this musical is the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon. Variety called it “screamingly good fun.” $40 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Alan Cumming is Not Acting His Age at Hobby Center | Wednesday, March 6 & Thursday, March 7 – The Tony Award winner comes to Houston to talk about everything, from the time the mom from the Brady Bunch punched him to what his dog has taught him about the quality of life. Expect song selections from Cabaret along with stories and an irreverent wit. $54 and up. 7pm.
- Performing Arts Houston: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at Jones Hall | Thursday, March 7 to Saturday, March 9 – The legendary dance troupe returns to Houston for a performance of electrifying choreography, including one of the company’s signature pieces, Revelations. See for yourself why this iconic ensemble is at the pinnacle of American dance. $29 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Dirt Dogs Theatre: The Pillowman at MATCH | Friday, March 8 to Saturday, March 23 – A dark and provocative tale that explores the concepts of nature and nurture, this play takes place in a totalitarian state, where a writer is questioned when the gruesome content of his short stories begins to resemble a series of bizarre murders occurring in his town. $30. - Houston Chamber Choir: Mass in Exile at South Main Baptist Church | Saturday, March 9 – This moving new work for chorus and orchestra by composer Mark Buller and librettist Leah Lax is a gripping, personal exploration of their strict religious pasts. Together, they glimpse the possibility of a different kind of faith within an ailing world. $45. 7:30pm.
- A.D. Players: Kingdom Undone at the George Theater | Wednesday, March 13 to Saturday, March 30 – A perfect tie-in to Easter, this play explores the life, passion and death of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Seeing Jesus as a conquering messiah intent on defeating Rome, his misunderstanding of Christ’s mission will be his own downfall. $20 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Damn Yankees at Island Etc | Friday, March 15 | Ongoing – Head to Galveston for this beloved musical about a frustrated baseball fan who makes a deal with the devil so his team will beat the New York Yankees. Featuring classic Broadway numbers like “Whatever Lola Wants” and “Ya Gotta Have Heart,” audiences will see why it’s been a theater staple for more than half a century. This production runs through Saturday, April 13. $35. Showtimes vary.

- Ars Lyrica: Visions & Reveries at Hobby Center | Saturday, March 16 – The acclaimed early music ensemble continues its 2023-2024 season with this all-French program, featuring master works and hidden gems. $39 and up. 7:30pm.
- Patti LuPone: A Life in Notes at Hobby Center | Thursday, March 21 – The Broadway legend and three-time Tony Award winner performs a selection of songs from her storied career along with melodies that are touchstones across her life. $44 and up. 7:30pm.
- The World is Not Silent at Alley Theatre | Friday, March 22 | Ongoing – This world premiere is the story of a son and his father, trying to reconstruct their strained relationship following the father’s hearing loss. Exploring language and love, it looks at what connects and divides us. This production runs through Sunday, April 14. $42 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Shepherd School Orchestra: Musical Stories Family Concert at Stude Concert Hall | Saturday, March 23 | FREE – This family-friendly performance is an excellent way to introduce newcomers of all ages to classical music, as well as offering devotees a great concert, featuring selections from Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Meet the instruments and Shepherd School student musicians in the foyer before the concert. 11am.
- Mighty Acorn Productions: The Outsider at MATCH | Thursday, March 28 | Ongoing – In this hilarious, satirical send-up of American politics, a political unknown is thrust into the role of governor. What happens when his handlers start peddling his inexperience as exactly what the voting public wants? This production runs through Friday, April 5. $35. Showtimes vary.
- Stagolee & the Funeral of a Dangerous Word at Main Street Theater | Saturday, March 30 | Ongoing – This world premiere by Houston playwright Thomas Meloncon is the story of a small-town Texas NAACP chapter planning a funeral for “the N-word.” Meanwhile, a bigoted white man and a Black man named Stagolee are about to embark on a court-ordered intervention facilitated by a Jewish psychologist. The show is an exploration of different points of view along the racial divide. This production runs through Sunday, April 21. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.

- Catastrophic Theatre presents It Is Magic at MATCH | Through Saturday, March 2 – What evil lies at the heart of community theater auditions? Audiences will find out in this play that explores the dynamic of actors, friends and the spotlight. It’s the latest play by Mickle Maher, the force behind Catastrophic favorites Small Ball, There is a Happiness That Morning Is, and others. Pay-what-you-can. Showtimes vary.
- 26 Miles at Main Street Theater | Through Sunday, March 3 – Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegría Hudes’s play explores the relationship between mother and daughter as they travel across the country. Along the way, they’ll unravel how much it matters that the mother’s skin is brown and the daughter’s is white, the vast distances love can connect, and what it means to be family. $35 and up. Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm; Sunday at 3pm.
- Houston Ballet presents Cinderella at Wortham Center | Through Sunday, March 3 – Stanton Welch’s take on the classic Prokofiev ballet finds a tomboy Cinderella fighting the will of her evil stepmother with everything she’s got. This is no damsel in distress, and when she finds love, she’s ready to grab it with both hands and hold on tight. $25 and up. Showtimes vary.
- King James at Rec Room Arts | Through Wednesday, March 6 – This poignant story of male friendship follows Shawn and Matt across 10 years, as they use sports to express feelings and ideas they otherwise couldn’t. The play explores their friendship through the lens of LeBron James’ career milestones. $40. 7:30pm.
- Murderer at Theatre Southwest | Through Saturday, March 9 – This mystery thriller tells the story of a painter obsessed with famous murderers of the past. Taking great pleasure in recreating their crimes, he hopes to one day join their ranks by performing an infamous murder of his own. $22, but limited $11 tickets are available for select shows.. - The Nerd at Alley Theatre | Through Sunday, March 17 – Larry Shue’s comedy is the story of an architect who invites the hero who saved his life to his home. Little does he know his lifesaver is a nerd who is about to overstay his welcome and bring chaos in his wake. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Stages presents Laughs in Spanish at the Gordy | Through Sunday, March 17 – Mariana heads up a swanky gallery and she’s knee-deep in preparations for Art Basel. Only her gallery is an active crime scene. And her movie-star mother just showed up to try and save the day. Complications ensue in this snapshot of Cuban and Colombian American culture set in the heart of Miami’s Wynwood Arts District. $25 and up. Showtimes vary.
