Sitting in the shadow of Downtown off of the Sabine Street Bridge, this state-of-the-art, public in-ground facility opened in June of 2008, vaulting Houston into the forefront of American venues for skaters.
Designed by premier skatepark firm Grindline, the Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark is the first world-class, in-ground skatepark in our region.
With more than 30,000 square-feet of park course for riders to navigate, this concrete playground features areas for skaters of all skill levels, perfect for the seasoned pro to the beginner taking their first push on the board.
Skatepark Features
Named after Texas billionaire lawyer Joe Jamail and his wife Lee, the park features a breathtaking view of the Downtown skyline and plenty of obstacles for skaters of all skill levels to approach.
The massive park features a street course complete with quarter pipes and handrails, two concrete cradles (one of which is thought to be the largest in the United States), a kidney pool, and a large bowl with a 12.5-foot deep end.
In addition to the obstacles, don’t miss the works of art along “Skater Alley,” the winding walkway between Sabine Street and the skatepark entrance. The Houston Parks Board teamed-up with The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art to coordinate the display of five large panels showcasing work created by local street artists.

Skatepark Rules & FAQS
Before you visit parents and skaters know that only skateboarding, roller skating, and rollerblading are permitted at the skatepark. BMX bikes are not permitted.
All guests and patrons are required to wear a skateboarding helmet when skating. Though it is not required it is strongly recommended that park users wear protective equipment which includes: kneepads, elbow pads, and wrist guards.
The skatepark is monitored, but parents should not assume that their kids will be supervised as with a day care center. The park attendant will be able to assist with questions and provide help as needed.
It’s also worth noting that the morning hours (typically 9am to 11am) are usually less crowded and allow for beginners to better focus on practicing their skating skills. There is a even a spectator area within the park for parents and friends to watch from.
