  • Grand Opening Weekend at Rhythm Bar | Thursday to Sunday | No Cover – Houston’s newest hotspot is opening its doors in the heart of Midtown, with a weekend packed with DJs Red Soda, Mav, Mike Mogul, T Will and J Branch spinning old school, new school and more hip hop and R&B into the late hours. Ages 25+ Only. Hours vary.
  • Comedian Akaash Singh Live Special Taping at White Oak Music Hall | Friday & Saturday – The Flagrant 2 podcast host and comedian brings his latest material to the White Oak downstairs stage on back-to-back nights for a live taping of his new comedy special. $31. Times vary.
  • The Riot Comedy Club presents Dustin Nickerson at Rudyard’s Pub | Friday & Saturday – Coming off the release of his 2021 full-length special, Overwhelmed on Amazon Prime, the comedian and author of How to be Married to Melissa performs back-to-back nights at the Montrose British Pub. $20 and up. Times vary.
  • Comedian Cristela Alonzo at Houston Improv | Friday & Saturday – The Rio Grande Valley–native dropped her acclaimed stand-up special Middle Classy on Netflix last summer, and has since been touring the country with new material touching on the funny side of topics like politics, therapy and life as a Latina. $50 for 2, and up. Times vary.
  • Galveston Island Wine Festival at Moody Gardens | Friday to Sunday – Food and wine lovers can take to Galveston for this three-day fest featuring seafood offerings from acclaimed Houston chefs Christine Ha (Xin Chào, Stuffed Belly) and David Cordúa (The Lymbar), a wine and spirit tasting with penguin encounters, a bourbon storytelling series with military veterans, and an opportunity to explore the Moody Gardens pyramids. Prices vary by package. Times vary.
  • Houston Restaurant Weeks at Multiple Locations | Daily | Final Days – The Houston Food Bank’s biggest fundraiser closes out another year of tasty and charitable food and drink. Ending on Labor Day, Monday, September 4, the month-long celebration features more than 200 local restaurants with special offerings for brunch, lunch and dinner (and even to-go). Prices are $25 for brunch and lunch, $39 or $55 for dinner. Times vary by location.

  • Nosh: Houston Culinary Showcase 2023 at Shell Energy Stadium – A signature culinary event from the minds behind Black Restaurant Week, the sixth annual Nosh showcase offers a chance to dive into the flavors of African, African American, and Caribbean cuisine through the dishes of Houston’s top Black chefs, caterers and bartenders. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. $50 and up. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Houston Texans Season Premiere at NRG Stadium – Ahead of the NFL season kickoff, join members of the Houston Texans front office and team for an exclusive evening on the field that includes dinner, casino games, live music, a silent auction and more. Appearances include Chair and CEO Cal McNair, General Manager Nick Caserio, Head Coach DeMeco Ryans, Texans players, Toro the mascot, cheerleaders and more. $1,000 and up. 6:30pm.
  • The Riot Comedy Club presents Shafi Hossain at Rudyard’s Pub – The New York-based comedian, writer and host of Culture Clash Comedy Podcast has been hailed as one of the funniest additions to the recent stand-up scene, and you can find out why when he performs a special set upstairs at Rudz. $15 and up. 7pm.
  • Ingenious Lotería at Ingenious Brewing Company | FREE – Play a few rounds of Lotería for prizes like stickers, discounts on draft pours and to-go beer, free 4-packs, and more at the inventive Humble brewery. 7pm to 9pm.
  • Arcángel in Concert at Smart Financial Centre – The Latin trap rapper brings his chart-topping album, Sr. Santos, to Sugar Land, giving fans a chance to hear him perform his red hot collab with Bad Bunny, “La Jumpa.” $54 and up. 8pm.
  • Jaws Movie Screening at Daiquiri Time Out | No Cover – The Galveston spot for frozens closes out their summer Creature Feature Movie Series with the 1975 Stephen Spielberg classic, Jaws. 21+ only. 8:30pm.
  • Crystallmess DJ Set at Bauhaus – The Downtown club for EDM hosts French DJ Crystallmess as part of their recurring Gulp series. $10 and up. 9pm.

Friday, September 1, 2023 

  • Holler Monthly Market at Holler Brewing Co. | FREE – The Arts District brewery opens their doors for a Yappy Hour market, featuring more than a dozen local vendors and plenty of pups to meet. 5pm to 9pm.
  • BLCK Market Pop-Up at GreenStreet – Shop from some of the city’s best local Black-owned businesses at this pop-up event from BLCK Market. While there, enjoy live music, food and drinks as you shop everything from clothing and accessories to home decor and beauty products. Limited free tickets available; $5 after that. 6pm to 10pm.
  • Notes of Noire: A Wine & Live Music Pairing at Pur Noire Urban Wineries – The Downtown winery hosts their weekly event with Houston Groove Society where guests will taste through four wines that are each paired with different songs. $40. 7pm and 8:30pm.
  • 2023 Houston Fringe Festival at MATCH – The annual one-night fest returns with an evening that blends contemporary dance, music, spoken word, comedy, cirque performances and more for an inside look at what Houston’s contemporary arts scene has been working on. $15 and up. 8pm.
  • Luna Li & Dengue Fever in Concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre | FREE – Asia Society Texas celebrates the Miller centennial with a free concert that joins the indie rock dreamscapes of Luna Li with Cambodian psych rock outfit Dengue Fever for an electric night of music on the Hermann hill. 8pm.
  • Karaoke Night at Star Sailor | FREE – The Lazybrook spot for smashburgers and drinks hosts its weekly karaoke night with DJ Starfire. Come by and flex your pipes or enjoy the karaoke games. 8pm to 11pm.
  • Lil’ Keke, Slim Thug & Paul Wall in Concert at Home Run Dugout – A trio of Houston rap legends assemble at the Katy bar and batting cages, performing chart-topping hits in a vibrant H-Town atmosphere. $35 and up. 9pm.
  • Labor Daze: Bear Grillz at Stereo Live – The Denver DJ helps usher in the Labor Day festivities with a Friday night set in West Houston. $15. 10pm to 2am.
  • Feminine Friday Burlesque Show at Social Beer Garden | FREE – The Midtown beer garden opens up the outdoor patio for a night of tantalizing burlesque performances from talents like Gia Vaughna, Ramona Rose, Fox Monroe and Nikki Knockout. 11pm.

  • Playin’ For First Responders: Charity Sand Volleyball Tournaments at Wakefield Crowbar – Serve, set and spike your way through morning and nighttime sand volleyball matches at Wakefield’s charity tournament for first responders. The co-ed tourney guarantees three games per team with gift cards, cash prizes and all-day drink specials. Registration is $140 per team or $35 for free agents. 9am to 10pm.
  • Goat Yoga Houston at Little Woodrow’s EaDo – Stretch into the long Labor Day Weekend as you work through yoga flows among pygmy goats. Following the 45-minute ashtanga yoga class, each participant will get 15 minutes of goat time. Mats available for rental. $45 and up. 10am.
  • Pride Galveston: Pride Beach Bash at East Beach | FREE – Make a splash in the waters of Galveston at this Pride celebration that features a full day of beachside fun, plus free food and water. Free, but parking on East Beach is $15. 10am to 5pm.
  • Grapes & Grooves Festival at Agora Haus – Near Arts District, this event fuses midday and evening wine tastings with live music, plus VIP perks like access to rare wines and a curated reception with B&B Butchers bites. $70 and up. Two sessions are available; 11am to 4pm, and 7pm to midnight.
  • Saturday Drag Bingo at Bar Boheme | FREE – The iconic weekend drag brunch returns to the patio of Bar Boheme in Montrose for an afternoon of free bingo with drink specials, drag hosts, DJs and more. 21+ only. Noon to 3pm.
  • Reggae Vibes Festival at Karbach Brewing Co. | FREE – This all-ages festival at the Spring Branch brewery features a lineup of artists like Dem Roots, Soulfiya and much more along with a local vendor market. Noon to 10pm.
  • Afrobeats City Mega Jam at Rise Rooftop – DJ Sir Oreo and DJ Diesel take over the Midtown nightlife spot for a full day of Afrobeats and good vibes. $19.99 and up. 2pm to 8pm.
  • Poppy in Concert at House of Blues – The pop artist that blends dark soundscapes with elements of metal takes to the Downtown stage for a night of songs from her new release, Zig, and other fan faves. $39 and up. 6pm.
  • Golden Dawn Arkestra in Concert at Axelrad | FREE – On the outdoor patio of Axelrad, the costumed group brings their signature experimentation with genres and styles, sending concertgoers on a journey through the sounds of Brazil, punk and psych rock, disco and soul, and beyond. 8pm.
  • Silent Disco in the Park at River Oaks District | FREE – This family-friendly silent disco takes to the River Oaks District near Uptown where you can dance to the grooves and cool off with disco-themed cocktails and mocktails, mini fans, and Wonder Pops in boozy and kid-friendly options. 8pm to 10:30pm.
  • Keesha Pratt Band in Concert at Continental Club – The award-winning blues and Motown-inspired act led by Keesha Pratt takes the Mid-Main stage for a Labor Day Weekend concert. $15 and up. 9pm.
  • Dial Up: ’90s & Y2K Dance Party at the Secret Group | FREE – Hit up the EaDo venue for a night of dancing to the hits of Britney Spears, Missy Elliott, and many others from the turn of the millennium. 21+ only. 9pm to 2am.

  • Pride Galveston: 4th Annual Pool Party at Robert’s Lafitte | No Cover – Close out the Pride celebrations in Galveston with an annual pool party just blocks from the seawall, featuring live DJs, extravagant shows, drink specials and more. Noon to 7pm.
  • Mr Eazi & DJ Edu at Rise Rooftop – Choplife Soundsystem, the duo consisting of Nigerian singer Mr. Eazi and DJ Edu, hosts an irresistible Afrobeats afternoon at the Midtown hot spot. $30 and up. 3pm.
  • Down 4 Whatever! A Labor Day Weekend Party at Social Beer Garden | No Cover – Celebrate the long weekend at this bash in Midtown, headlined by DJs spinning Latin, tropical bass, house, disco and more while you munch on pastor tacos and barbecue from Boot’s BBQ Company. 3pm to 8pm.
  • Massano DJ Set at Bauhaus – Featuring a stacked lineup of more than a dozen DJs, this Labor Day Sunday blowout is capped off by Liverpool native Massano, making his Houston debut. $15 and up. 6pm.
  • 8th Wonder Comedy Hour with Tre Tuston at the Secret Group – Escape the weekend heat with a cold 8th Wonder brew and live comedy headlined by Houston’s own Tre Tuston, joined by Tess Vergult and Andy Huggins, at the EaDo comedy powerhouse. $10 includes an 8th Wonder beer and a branded pint glass to take home. 6:30pm.
  • Asking Alexandria & The Hu in Concert at 713 Music Hall – Touring their brand new studio album, Where Do We Go From Here?, English metalcore group Asking Alexandria headlines at Post Houston, joined by Mongolian folk metal band, the Hu. $22.50 and up. 6:30pm.
  • Ku Egenti & Friends: Labor Day Weekend Edition at the Secret Group – The Houston comic brings his friends to the EaDo comedy club, featuring some seriously funny sets from Corlis DeLauren, Trai Love, Eva Elliott and Rich Williams, with Quantum Retro providing the music vibes all Sunday night. $15 and up. 8pm.
  • Timmy Trumpet DJ Set at Stereo Live – Stay up late with Labor Day on the way when Aussie DJ Timmy Trumpet spins at Stereo Live in West Houston. $29.99 and up. 10pm to 2am.
