Become consumed with Carmen, Houston Grand Opera’s passionate final performance of the 2014 season, in performances at the Wortham Theater Center from Friday, April 25 through Saturday, May 10, 2014.
One of literature’s most classic femme fatales, ranging from the biblical Delilah to Shakespeare’s Cleopatra to the smoky, dangerous beauties of the film noir era, the gypsy Carmen is passion, lust and temptation personified. Carmen is “a sexual bird of prey whose charms lead Don José into a fatalistic chain of events, uncontrollable passion, jealousy, and bloodshed.”
See Houston Grand Opera’s rendition of this classic Opera by French composer Georges Bizet, sung in French with projected English subtitles, sweep the audience off its feet with grand songs (which many first time opera-goers already know from their prevalence in pop culture), vivid hues, dramatic movements and compelling passion.
