This month, close out the NBA season with the final Rockets games before the summer draft, welcome back the Houston Astros and the new-look Sugar Land Space Cowboys with Opening Day revelry, catch a supersized eSports events at NRG Stadium, and much more.

Top 15 Games & Sports Events This Month: April 2022

  • Harlem Globetrotters at NRG Arena | Friday, April 1 & Saturday, April 9 – Basketball wizardry is on display when the world famous Globetrotters make stops in H-Town on successive weekends for an energetic, action-packed ball game against the Washington Generals. $25 and up. Friday 7pm; Saturday noon.
  • Kolache Factory 5K, 10K & Kids Dash in the Energy Corridor | Saturday, April 2 – This fourth annual run event sends runners out and back from the Addicks Park & Ride, greeting them at the finish line with kolaches and a free beer from Saint Arnold. For those up for “The Challenge,” runners on the 10K course will eat three sausage and cheese kolaches at the 3.1-mile mark, then complete the rest of the race in 120 minutes or less. Registration starts at $32.75 and up, increasing as the event nears. 8am.
  • Spring Cup at Houston Polo Club | Sunday, April 3 – Watch the spring season kickoff at the Houston Polo Club by Memorial Park, complete with the traditional divot stomp at halftime, great music, food and premium cocktails from Ruth’s Chris, and more. $32.50; $15.50 for ages 12 and under. Boxes start at $89 for 2. 5pm.
  • Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves at Toyota Center | Sunday, April 3 – Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves make a stop in Houston for what will be the Rockets’ second-to-last home game of the season. $10 and up. 6pm.
  • Houston Dynamo FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes at PNC Stadium | Saturday, April 9 – After an encouraging start to the season, the Dynamo will host rivals from San Jose in an early April evening showdown in EaDo. $14 and up. 7:30pm.
  • Houston SaberCats vs. Dallas Jackals at Aveva Stadium | Saturday, April 9 – Off to one of the best starts in franchise history, the revamped SaberCats will face the Jackals from up I-45 as they head into Round 10 of the rugby season. $15 and up. 7pm.
  • Houston Rockets vs. Atlanta Hawks at Toyota Center | Sunday, April 10 – It’s Fan Appreciation Night on the final home game of the regular season before the Rockets turn their attention to this summer’s draft. $8 and up. 6pm.

  • Sugar Land Space Cowboys vs. Round Rock Express at Constellation Field | Tuesday, April 12 to Sunday, April 17 – The new-look Space Cowboys (formerly the Sugar Land Skeeters) take the field for the first time this season—and only time in April. They’ll kick off a six-game series with the Round Rock Express to start the Triple A season. $7 and up. Tuesday to Friday 7pm; Saturday 6pm; Sunday 2pm.
  • Houston Dynamo FC vs. Portland Timbers at PNC Stadium | Saturday, April 16 – The runners up in last year’s MLS Cup Final, the Portland Timbers, arrive to face the Dynamo in a Western Conference showdown. $16 and up. 5pm.
  • Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels at Minute Maid Park | Monday, April 18 to Wednesday, April 20 – At long last, it’s Opening Day at the ballpark when the Astros make their first home appearance of the delayed season in a three-game series with Los Angeles. Swing by early on Monday to enjoy the Astros Street Fest from 4pm to 6:30pm. $9 and up. Monday and Tuesday 7pm; Wednesday 5:40pm.
  • Houston Astros vs. Toronto Blue Jays at Minute Maid Park | Friday, April 22 to Sunday, April 24 – George Springer returns again to Minute Maid Park along with the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game series highlighted by a 1960s-themed Flashback Friday and Orbit’s birthday on Sunday. $28 and up. Times vary.

  • Houston SaberCats vs. Toronto Arrows at Aveva Stadium | Saturday, April 23 – The final home game of the month will see the SaberCats sized up against a Toronto squad out of the Eastern Conference. $15 and up. 7pm.
  • The Ultimate Most Dopest Dodgeball Charity Challenge at Pitch 25 | Saturday, April 23 – This charity clash at Pitch 25 in East Downtown will see four teams of Houston sports stars and local celebrities dodging, ducking, dipping, diving and dodging to win money for their team’s nonprofit. Hosted by Houston Dynamo legend Brian Ching, the teams will be captained by NFL players Whitney Mercilus, Justin Reid, Chester Pitts and DJ Big Reeks. $20; free for ages 5 and under. 1pm to 4pm.
  • League of Legends Mid-Season Showdown at NRG Stadium | Saturday, April 23 & Sunday, April 24 – One of the biggest eSports competitions comes to NRG for back-to-back days of Spring Finals action, pitting North American squads against one another in League of Legends play. Tickets and times are TBA.
  • Houston Dash vs. Racing Louisville FC at PNC Stadium | Sunday, April 24 – The finale of the group stage in the NWSL Challenge Cup will see the Dash host Racing Louisville FC while aiming to take a spot in the knockout stage that follows. $12 and up. 5pm.
  • Houston Dynamo FC vs. Austin FC at PNC Stadium | Saturday, April 30 – The second-year MLS squad from Central Texas makes another stop through Houston to face the Dynamo. $24 and up. 12:30pm.
