- Houston Symphony presents Star–Spangled Salute at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Wednesday, July 3 | FREE – Bring the family to enjoy this free annual Independence Eve spectacular from Houston Symphony, who will play a selection of patriotic hits from across the years. Come by early for pre-show fun in the concourse with roaming entertainers and more. Gates 6:30pm. Showtime 8pm.
- Run Wild 5K & Kids Run at Uptown Park | Thursday, July 4 – Hosted by Runner’s High Club, this family-friendly fun run benefits Special Olympics Texas & Girls on the Run Greater Houston, featuring a .6-mile kids run in addition to a 5K. All kids receive medals and parents are welcome to run/walk along with them. $22 and up. 7am.
- Freedom Over Texas at Eleanor Tinsley Park | Thursday, July 4 – Houston’s annual Fourth of July extravaganza, Freedom Over Texas, features six hours of family-friendly fun along Allen Parkway, with live concerts from local, regional, and national acts, all capped off by a musically choreographed, “Texas-sized” fireworks finale over the skyline. This year’s festivities will be headlined by country stars Russell Dickerson, Jo Dee Messina, and Chapel Hart. $10; free for ages 5 and under. 4pm to 10pm.
- Houston Symphony’s Star Spangled Salute at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Thursday, July 4 | FREE – The Symphony’s Independence Day tradition returns to the Miller stage, featuring a rousing program of patriotic songs to celebrate the country’s birthday. Fireworks will cap it all off, beginning around 10pm. 8:30pm to 10pm.
- Space Explorers: The Infinite at Silver Street Studios | Thursdays to Sundays in July – Inspired by NASA missions aboard the International Space Station, this one-hour immersive experience will take guests on a powerful journey via never-before-seen 360-degree videos captured in space. Ages 8 and up are invited to live like an astronaut and witness breathtaking views of our planet. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Friday Night Fireworks at Kemah Boardwalk | Fridays in July | FREE – Families can head to Kemah Boardwalk for a dazzling Fireworks Show over Galveston Bay every Friday in July. The show is free to watch, with tickets to the Boardwalk Beast Fireworks Cruise available for $40 at the ticket booth (boarding begins at 9pm). 9:30pm.
- Houston Grand Opera presents Storybook Opera at Levy Park | Saturdays in July | FREE – Held at Levy Park’s event pavilion, singers from the Houston Grand Opera will present an engaging storytime to introduce opera to students Pre-K through Grade 2. Enjoy Agua Agüita (July 6), Carmen (July 13), Westward Ho Carlotta (July 20), and Magic Flute (July 27). 11am.
- Bluey’s Big Play at Wortham Center | Saturday, July 6 & Sunday, July 7 – Fans of Bluey can watch as the animated Blue Heeler puppy and her mum, dad, and sister Bingo take their adventures to the stage, with colorful sets, brand new songs created just for this production, and loads of fun and laughs for the family. $50 and up. Showtimes vary.
- The Lion King at Hobby Center | Thursday, July 11 to Sunday, August 4 – Disney’s beloved 1994 animated film is brought to life on stage in this powerful, spirit-lifting smash-hit Broadway musical. Sing along to original music alongside the movie’s hits crafted by Sir Elton John and Tim Rice (including “Circle of Life”). This production runs through Sunday, August 4. $35 and up. Showtimes vary.
- Summer Symphony Nights with Houston Symphony at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Friday, July 12 to Saturday, July 20 | FREE – The Houston Symphony’s annual concert returns with four free performances under the stars at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. The family-friendly concert experience showcases the classical repertoire with works from beloved composers like Beethoven, Tchaikosvsky, and Dvořák paired with contemporary pieces reflecting symphonic music’s diversity. 8:30pm.
- Play It Cool! at Children’s Museum of Houston | Saturday, July 13 – Join Elsa, Anna, Hans and Olaf for a Frozen-inspired journey through the enchanting kingdom of Arendelle. - Summer Species: Butterfly Walk at Buffalo Bayou Park | Saturday, July 20 | FREE – This monthly nature gathering offers a three-mile walk led by the retired founding director of the Cockrell Butterfly Center, Nancy Greig, who will helps walkers learn about local butterfly species, their life cycle and habitat. 9am to 10:30am.
- Children’s Storytime at Midtown Park | Saturday, July 20 | FREE – Summer brings this free, family-friendly Children’s Storytime programming, featuring a reading, book giveaways and fun activities every third Saturday through August. 10:30am.
- Danny Go! Live at Bayou Music Center | Wednesday, July 24 – Live-action musical and educational children’s show Danny Go! brings its catchy, upbeat dance-along songs and a whole bunch of silliness on tour. The fun-loving show is perfect for ages 3 to 7. $53 and up. 5pm.
- Houston Symphony presents Batman at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion | Friday, July 26 | FREE – Celebrating 85 years of the caped crusader, the Symphony performs Danny Elfman’s score to the 1989 Batman movie starring Michael Keaton, while the film plays on a giant screen. 8pm.
