  • Galveston Island Back to School Bucket List Challenge | Thursday, August 1 to Monday, August 19 – Tick off your bucket list on this island scavenger hunt in Galveston, that sends visitors of all ages through essential Galveston experiences like making sandcastles on the beach, visiting a museum, riding the trolley and more. Discounts and exclusive deals are available at many Galveston businesses, and once you’ve completed at least 6 of the 10 items, you can return to the Visitor Information Center and claim a prize.
  • Royal Revelry at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, August 3 – All ages are welcome to join the Royal Court at this magical experience, featuring Disney-inspired princesses, live Renaissance music, creative workshops, thrilling Dungeons & Dragons game sessions, and electrifying demonstrations of swordplay, where kids can master the art of wielding foam swords and shields. $19.95. 9am to 5pm.
  • Summer Sillies Circus at Woodlands Children’s Museum | Saturday, August 3 Celebrating International Clown Week, Maggie the Clown will be on hand for performances every hour from 10:30am to 1:30pm. Kids can also pose for photos with Shorty, the stilt-walking juggling circus jester, enjoy silk acrobatic performances, and cool off outside with Tikiz Shaved Ice & Ice Cream. $9 for ages 1 and up. 10am to 2pm.
  • Possums & Popsicles at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Saturday, August 3 – Ages 5 and up can enjoy this nighttime wildlife adventure, where they’ll learn all about Houston’s amazing urban wildlife—including opossums—and enjoy a guided hike through the Arboretum. Grab a frozen treat or enjoy a refreshing root beer (or regular beer for adults) from Saint Arnold Brewing Company, and get up close and personal with live wild animals from the Wildlife Center of Texas. $50; $20 for ages 5 to 12. 7pm to 9pm.
  • Sunday Funday Fireworks at the Beach in Galveston | Sunday, August 4 & Sunday, August 11 | FREE – Celebrate the last weeks of summer vacation with free 15-minute fireworks shows along the beach in Galveston, to the east and west of 37th Street and the seawall. 9pm both nights.
  • Family Sundays at Minute Maid Park | Sunday, August 4 & Sunday, August 18 – Sunday home games at Minute Maid Park are Family Sundays, where young ‘Stros fans can cheer on their favorite ball players, and families can enjoy grand slam deals including Family 4-Pack options with four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas. Kids 5 to 12 can also lineup after the game to run the bases on the field. $17 and up. Times vary.
  • Minion Mania at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, August 10 – The Minions are taking over the Children’s Museum for an epic day of despicable fun and “Minion Mania.” Kids can meet their faves and take keepsake pictures at a Minions Meet and Greet, held from 9 am to 3pm in the Kid’s Hall Alcove. $19.95. 9am to 5pm.
  • Tiny: Aviation Play for Toddlers at Lone Star Flight Museum | Saturday, August 17 – Bring your little pilots out for an hour of developmental playtime in the toddler terminal, where they can spark their curiosity with hands-on activities like making a pilot hat, pilot vest and pilot license. Special tickets that include museum admission are $12 for a parent and child, $10 for each additional guest over the age of 4. 9am to 10am.
  • HALS Public Ride Day at Zube Park | Saturday, August 17 | FREE Got little ones that love locomotives? On the third Saturday of each month, March through November, the Houston Area Live Steamers offer free large scale train rides to the public in Hockley. All ages are welcome to ride and no reservations needed—just get in line and enjoy the 12 to 15-minute train ride. 9am to 1pm. 
  • Children’s Storytime at Midtown Park | Saturday, August 17 | FREE Summer brings this free, family-friendly Children’s Storytime programming to Midtown, featuring a story reading, book giveaways and fun activities. 10:30am.
  • Back to School Bash at Feges BBQ | Wednesday, August 21 | No Cover Feges BBQ invites families out to its annual bash at the Spring Branch location on Long Point Road. Hit the build-your-own-dirt-pie station, dig into housemade sausage corn dogs, enjoy the play area, and fill up on tasty ‘q.   • Houston Museum of Natural Science at Levy Park | Sunday, August 25 | FREE Curious minds can have fun through learning when Houston Museum of Natural Science brings its experts to Levy Park’s event pavilion for this free developmental play experience. This month’s theme will be Sound Science. 2pm.
  • Space Explorers: The Infinite at Silver Street Studios | Thursdays to Sundays | Ongoing Inspired by NASA missions aboard the International Space Station, this one-hour immersive experience will take guests on a powerful journey via never-before-seen 360-degree videos captured in space.
