Celebrate the big, blue marble at fun, family-friendly Earth Day events, celebrations, and more around Greater Houston through Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Across Greater Houston, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to get out and celebrate Earth Day with fun concerts, educational outdoor festivals, craft activities—and even take-home tree saplings to plant at home.

2024 Earth Day Celebrations & Events in Houston

  • Opening Reception & Workshop at Moody Center for the Arts | Friday, April 19 & Saturday, April 20 | FREE – The art space at Rice University kicks the weekend off with the opening reception of Practices of Attention on the Moody Project Wall, which features contributions by student artists, focusing on ecological caretaking. The following day features a movement workshop with Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener, open to all levels of experience, that uses spatial games and prompts to foster a deeper connection to the environment. Friday’s reception is 5pm to 7pm; Saturday’s workshop is 10am to noon.
  • Earth Day Bash at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, April 20 – Held each year since 1970, the Children’s Museum bash on Earth Day offers a day of festivities with nature-inspired projects, demonstrations and experiments. While supplies last, you can grab a tree sapling in a giveaway by Trees for Houston. $17 for ages 1 and up. 9am to 5pm.
  • Earth Day Festival at HMNS-Sugar Land | Saturday, April 20 – The Sugar Land outpost of Houston Museum of Natural Science hosts an Earth Day celebration, where visitors can explore eco-friendly initiatives and sustainable practices while learning about biodiversity. $18; $15 for ages 3 to 11. 10am to 1pm.
  • Earth Day at the Market Square Park Farmers Market | Saturday, April 20 | FREE – Be one of the first 100 people to arrive at the weekly seasonal market to get a free custom t-shirt created by artist Danny Russo. Stick around for live entertainment, fresh food and home goods, more free activities, and great people—and pet—watching. 10am to 2pm.
  • Artful Earth: A Spring Celebration at Sawyer Yards | Saturday, April 20 | FREE – Coinciding with the Third Saturday Open Art Studios, this Earth Day celebration offers an opportunity to tour artist studios, recent exhibitions and engage with on-site partners from the Houston Botanic Garden, The Ranch Houston and Cornelius Nursery. 11am to 4pm.

  • Earth Day Mural Unveiling & Concert at Houston Botanic Garden | Monday, April 22 – The South Houston gardens celebrates Earth Day with the unveiling of their new “Wild Texas” mural by artist David Cobb, which stretches 300 feet along Sims Bayou. Stick around after the ceremony to catch a live set from Canadian pop singer Charlotte Cardin. $12.50; $8 for ages 3 to 15. 10am to 12:30pm (park hours are 9am to 5pm).
  • Earth Day HTX at Watonga Park | Monday, April 22 | FREE – The City of Houston’s Earth Day celebration turns to this park space along the White Oak Bayou Greenway Trail. There, community volunteers and city leaders will come together to plant 2,500 trees in honor of Earth Day. 3:30pm.
  • Earth Day Celebration at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Saturday, April 27 | FREE – The annual celebration returns to the Arboretum, offering interactive booths, crafts, nature hike scavenger hunts, fun displays in the Discovery Room, and a chance to meet local community partners who will share ways of enjoying and supporting nature. 10am to 2pm.
  • Houston Plant Swap at Eureka Heights Brewing | Saturday, April 27 | FREE – The monthly plant swap returns to the Heights brewery with free biodegradable seedling pots for you to take home, along with a variety of herb seeds for planting. Swing by and explore more than a dozen vendors, try your hand at plant raffles, and chill with tasty craft brews. Noon to 3pm.
  • Earth Day Quaker Barter Fair at Live Oak Friends Meeting | Saturday, April 27 | FREE – The Heights meeting house hosts an afternoon where the community can come together to discuss creative ways of caring for the earth and each other. Come by and take part in crafts, games and other activities like a plant and seed swap, storytelling sessions, labyrinth walks, and live music. 1pm to 4pm.
