Celebrate the big, blue marble at fun, family-friendly Earth Day events, celebrations, and more around Greater Houston through Sunday, April 23, 2023.

Across Greater Houston, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to get out and celebrate Earth Day 2023 with fun concerts, educational outdoor festivals, craft activities—and even take-home tree saplings to plant at home.

  • Earth Rocks Week at Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center | Tuesday, April 18 to Saturday, April 22 – All week long, the children’s museum in Fort Bend celebrates the Earth with a week of events featuring repurposed, recycled and sustainable materials where you can learn to build a beautiful garden collage, craft a recycling wheel and more. $15. 10am to 6pm.
  • Earth Day HTX at Houston City Hall | Wednesday, April 19 | FREE – The city’s annual Earth Day celebration returns to the steps of City Hall, featuring hands-on activities, informational displays and demonstrations, food vendors, and interactive booths that showcase the city’s initiatives for a cleaner, greener Houston. 10am to 2pm.
  • Shadow Puppet Theatre: Earth Day, Birthday at the Woodlands Children’s Museum | Thursday, April 20 – Shadow puppets bring to life the tale of Earth Day, Birthday by Maureen Wright, about Monkey’s friends that insist on celebrating Earth Day as he tries to convince them that it’s his birthday, too. $8. 11am.
  • Energy Corridor District Earth Day at Terry Hershey Park | Thursday, April 20 | FREE – In the Memorial area, this Earth Day celebration at Terry Hershey Park offers a tree giveaway, yoga sessions, children’s activities, live music and an Earth Day market that features small, local and sustainable Houston businesses. 4pm to 7pm.
  • Earth Day Celebration at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center | Saturday, April 22 | FREE – The annual celebration returns to the Arboretum, offering interactive booths, nature hikes, fun displays in the Discovery Room, and a chance to meet local heroes like wildland firefighters, park rangers and other conservation professionals. 10am to 2pm.

  • Earth Day at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, April 22 – Celebrate Earth Day with a full day of activities in the Museum District; learn about creepy crawlies, take a close look at the skulls and fur of Texas native animals, learn how to start your own garden, and bring home a tree sapling if you’re one of the first lucky arrivals through the doors. $15. 10am to 6pm.
  • World Earth Day Houston at Cameron Iron Works | Saturday, April 22 | No Cover In Second Ward, this celebration and fundraiser features vendors, prizes and more, with proceeds going to anti-poaching efforts. 11am to 6pm.
  • Picnic In The Park: Earth Day at Evelyn’s Park | Saturday, April 22 | FREE – This Earth Day celebration also marks the 6th year anniversary for the Bellaire park space, and the afternoon bash includes live music, fun fitness classes, kids’ activities and treasure hunts around the park. Come early and you can also take home one of 5,000 free seedling giveaways. Noon to 4pm.
  • Earth Day at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch | Saturday, April 22 | FREE – In Katy, the LaCenterra shopping district hosts an afternoon of Earth Day fun with a tree giveaway to the first 100 attendees, craft activities for kids, educational booths, vendors, and more. Noon to 4pm.
  • Earth Day Celebration & Water Works Festival at Discovery Green | Saturday, April 22 | FREE – One of Discovery Green’s signature events, the annual family-friendly festival returns with a full afternoon of interactive exhibits and educational experiences, plus live music, art installations, face painting, crafts and activities. Noon to 5pm.

  • Earth Day Celebration with Artist Bennie Flores Ansell at Moody Center for the Arts | Saturday, April 22 | FREE – This novel celebration of Earth Day begins with a procession to the Friedman Holistic Garden where migration stories, which have been contributed as part of artist Flores Ansell’s Swarm Migration installation, will be composted (participants are welcome to return in September to collect a plant grown from their story). Then, enjoy freshly squeezed calamansi juice and take in a special tinikling performance that highlights the Filipino diaspora. 1pm to 4pm.
  • Save the Earth with Citizen Science at Houston Botanic Garden | Saturday, April 22 – This two-hour workshop helps you learn how to participate in citizen science by contributing crucial information and photographs to the scientific community with the help of several smartphone apps. $15. 2pm to 4pm.
  • Earth Day Movie Cinema: Wall-E at Sugar Land Town Square | Saturday, April 22 | FREE Grab the family, picnic blankets and chairs and head to Sugar Land to catch this screening of the Pixar hit, Wall-E, about a robot searching for connection and the importance of life on earth. 7pm.
  • A Gift From The Bower at LSCAN | Saturday, April 22 & Sunday, April 23 | Opening Weekend | FREE –Celebrate the opening of this outdoor, multidisciplinary art exhibition within natural galleries formed by small clearings in the woods of Southeast Texas. Note this event takes place at the Locke Surls Center for Art & Nature in Cleveland, Texas. 11am to 7pm.
  • Earth Sun Day at Post Houston | Sunday, April 23 | FREE – Celebrating Earth Day, the Downtown hotspot hosts an all-day festival with a vintage market, BMX stunt performers, and a vibrant artist installation that comes alive at night to cap off the festivities. Noon to 10pm.
