- JLF Houston at Asia Society Texas | Saturday, September 7 – In partnership with Teamwork Arts and Inprint, this popular annual celebration of culture, diversity and ideas is back. Like its namesake the Jaipur Literary Festival in India, JLF Houston brings together internationally acclaimed authors and thinkers like Alka Joshi, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, Cristina Rivera Garza, Navdeep Suri and more to Houston for a day of discussions, readings and insights. $20. 10am to 6pm.
- Bev Vincent at Village Books | Sunday, September 8 | FREE – The author comes to The Woodlands to celebrate the young adult edition of her book, Stephen King: His Life, Work and Influences. This thrilling visual companion is curated for young adults voraciously reading their way through Stephen King’s colossal corpus of creepy books. Those wishing to have their copies signed by the author must purchase them from the store. 3pm to 4:30pm.
- The Gulf: The Making of an American Sea at Rienzi | Wednesday, September 11 | FREE – Be part of the discussion of this book by Jack E. Davis that explores how the Gulf of Mexico’s fruitful ecosystems and exceptional beauty empowered a growing nation. This is the first event in Rienzi’s history book discussion series for the 2024-2025 year. Registration required. 1:30pm.
- Blue Willow Bookshop presents Sophie Hudson at St. Thomas Presbyterian Church | Tuesday, September 17 – The author and popular blogger at BooMama.net comes to Houston to discuss her latest book, A Fine Sight to See: Leading Because You Were Made for It. The book explores the confusing, differing stances on Christian women in leadership and offers a resource that empowers women to embrace their roles as leaders. $23; includes a copy of the book. 7pm.
- Performing Arts Houston presents A Conversation With Jenna Bush Hager at Wortham Center | Thursday, September 19 – The best-selling author and host of Today with Hoda and Jenna comes to Houston for an evening of storytelling. Expect an examination of her life, humanitarian efforts and more. $39 and up. 7:30pm.
- Brazos Bookstore presents Nicholas Sparks at Congregation Emanu-El | Tuesday, September 24 – The author behind such blockbuster bestsellers as The Notebook and The Wedding comes to Houston to discuss his latest novel, Counting Mercies. It’s the story of Tanner Hughes, an Army Ranger raised by his grandparents. When his grandmother dies and implores him to “find where you belong,” he embarks on a journey of discovering exactly where that is. $32; includes a copy of the book. 7pm.
- Banned Books: A Conversation with Dashka Slater at Houston Public Library Central | Thursday, September 26 | FREE – Celebrate Banned Books Week with Dashka Slater, the best-selling author of 11 books of fiction and nonfiction for children and adults. Her latest is Accountable: The True Story of a Racist Social Media Account and the Teenagers Whose Lives It Changed. She’ll discuss her work and the importance of access to books and ideas. Limited space available; registration required. 10am to noon.
- The Bookish Book Swap at Deacon Baldy’s | Thursday, September 26 | FREE – Come out to the Magnolia venue armed with a book you’re ready to let go and leave with a new must-read title. It’s an opportunity to find new books for your shelves and make new bookworm friends. 6pm.
- Inprint Houston & Musiqa present New Voices at MATCH | Saturday, September 28 – This blend of music and poetry introduces audiences to new works by composers Ben Morris and Marco-Adrián Ramos, as well as Marcus Karl Maroney’s piano trio. There is also new poetry by Justin Jannise. It’s an opportunity to be among the first to see these premieres by up and coming artists. Pay-what-you-can. 7:30pm.
- Inprint presents Rumaan Alam & Danzy Senna at Rice University Brockman Hall of Opera | Monday, September 30 – The authors will read from their new novels Entitlement and Colored Television, followed by an on-stage conversation with Daniel Peña, Pushcart Prize winning author of the novel, BANG! The evening will conclude with a book sale and signing. $5. 7:30pm.
