At the top of each week “My Top 5” showcases enterprising and creative Houstonians making things happen in H-Town, revealing their favorite things to do in their down time. This week, we’re very pleased to feature Bistro Menil chef Greg Martin, who shares some of his favorites inside and outside the Loop.

My Top 5 Things to Do in Houston

by Greg Martin

  1. Sundance Cinemas – Nothing beats wine and a movie at Sundance Cinemas. It’s so civilized and the wine selection and prices are perfect.
  2. Hermann Park – I love walking the dogs around the big loop at Hermann Park. Since the updates during its centennial year, it’s mostly shaded and makes the best walk in Houston. Don’t forget to bring bread to feed the ducks.
  3. Dan Flavin Installation at Richmond Hall – Located on the Menil Campus, the Dan Flavin Installation is a lot closer than driving all the way to Marfa, and it’s just as good!
  4. Picnic in Midtown Park – Pick up a few sandwiches at Spec’s Midtown- it gets busy at lunch, so call your order in- and head over to Midtown Park a few blocks North for a taste of the “Midtown Urban Lifestyle” and great people watching.
  5. Weekend Brunch at the Original Ninfa’s on Navigation – Call ahead for reservations and ask to sit with “Cadi”. Order the Fajitas Mixto (Shrimp, Pork & Beef) with a side of salsa Atomico for the best Nortenjo food outside of Mexico.
