Embark on a musical exploration of American independence at Apollo Chamber Players’ Liberty, with a special appearance by George Takei, at the Hobby Center on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

Apollo is kicking off its 2024-25 season, which will explore our nation’s noble quest to “secure the blessings of liberty” for its citizenry—along with its successes and failures.

A program highlight will feature legendary actor and activist George Takei sharing the story of his Japanese American family’s forced internment during World War II, when Japanese Americans had their most basic freedoms stripped away in one of democracy’s darkest chapters.

The show will also feature a world premiere by celebrated American composer and five-time Grammy winner John Corigliano. His “One Sweet Morning” reflects a post-9/11 aspiration for peace and freedom from war and terror.

Finally, Afghan-born composer Homayoun Sakhi brings a global perspective on the promises and perils of self-government and the eternal quest for liberty.

Actor and activist George Takei, best known for his groundbreaking role as Mr. Sulu on the original Star Trek TV series, will speak with a backdrop of live musical accompaniment as part of the evening’s program. | Photo courtesy of Apollo Chamber Players

Following Liberty, three additional concerts in 2025 will be Opportunity, Diversity, and Freedom.
