Something about Friday the 13th landing in the fall—or about a week before it—seems to inspire Houstonians to shake things up with spooky and goofy fun. Think about it as a not-so-dry run of things before Halloween season ignites.
Check out some of our favorite spooky and spooky-adjacent events celebrated the cursed date this week.
September Friday the 13th Events Around Houston
- Friday The 13th Paint Night at City Orchard Cidery in Arts District Houston – Channel Friday the 13th’s eerie vibes into your work an at interactive painting event. All participants get a 6×20-inch canvas pre-outlined with a design of their choice, and all the paints, brushes, and supplies are included. $25. 6pm.
- Friday the 13th Bash at Star Sailor in the Greater Heights | No Cover – The Heights comfort food favorite gets into the creepy spirit with tarot card readings, Friday the 13th flash tattoos, and food and drink specials. 6pm to 11:45pm.
- Friday the 13th Mixer at Trash Panda Drinking Club in Northside | FREE with RSVP – Lampson Retirement Solutions hosts a free mixer that includes free bites and 2 drink tickets. RSVP required. 7pm to 9pm.
- TGIF Night at Houston Toy Museum in the Heights – Relive ’90s Friday nights on ABC with screenings of classic ’90s sitcoms, including Boy Meets World, Family Matters, Teen Angel, Sabrina, Full House, and more. With a hat tip to Friday the 13th, each episode shown will have a spooky theme. BYOB welcome. $10; $5 for ages 5 to 9; free for ages 4 and under 7pm to 10pm.
- Noche de Cumbia at Axelrad Beer Garden in Midtown | FREE – Embrace rhythm magic on your 13th at Wonky Power’s monthly Cumbia dance party with its fiery lineups of live bands, producers, and DJs on two stages. Plus, the evening mercadito will feature goods from 12 vendors. 7pm to 2am.
- Friday the 13th Party at Whiskey River North Dancehall in Cypress – The northwest Houston dance hall welcomes special guest Jason Voorhees, and anyone who says, “Don’t let them escape, Jason” at the door gets in free until 10pm (ladies free all night). DJ Jammin Frickin J will on the decks in the main hall, and there will be drink specials, including $2.75 Tito’s vodka from 7pm to 10pm. Cover after 10pm TBD. 7pm to 2am.
- Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Friday the 13th Party at Betelgeuse Betelgeuse on Washington Avenue | No Cover – The original Betelgeuse Betelgeuse continues its Beetlejuice-inspired pop-up with a Friday night party complete with free tattoos, a Beetlejuice costume party, karaoke, Beetlejuice cocktails, tacos, and pizza. 9pm to 1am.
- Friday the 13th Concert at Black Magic Social Club in the East End – Four bands—Alone on the Moon, Sound Burier, Cavyrns, and Von Noir—take to the skull-covered stage at the dark, occult-heavy bar on Harrisburg. $15. Doors at 4pm; music at 9pm to 12:30am.
- Freaky Friday the 13th Improv at Station Improv & Sketch Comedy Theater in First Ward – Station’s lineup of improv and comedy acts put a spooky spin on the 13th, but promise the audience that it’s what they’d be expecting. $8. 9:30pm.
