In our Park Spotlight series, we take a closer look at Houston’s vast array of public recreational areas to shine a light on hidden and not so hidden gems. This week we’ll be spotlighting Alexander Deussen Park. Join us as we take a trip through Houston, park by park.

Located just 15 miles north of Downtown on Lake Houston, Alexander Deussen Park offers visitors a destination with enough space and wildlife that you might even forget you’re still in bustling Harris County.

Donated in 1956 by a petroleum geologist, this 309-acre scenic destination named for its donor features a fishing pier, duck pond, and, of course, boat ramps for access to take advantage of Lake Houston amenities.

And for those looking to take advantage of non-lake features, the park features picnic areas, a 2.5-mile jogging trail with workout equipment, a dog park, covered pavilions and playgrounds, three multi-purpose fields, a senior center, a water gazebo and more.
