Even though the weather will stick around for another month, the three-day Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial end of the summer and beginning of fall activities. And because we like to think that the weekend starts on Thursday, we’ve got a plus-sized five-day edition of our Weekend Guide.
Whether this is home or you’re visiting, there’s plenty happening around Greater Houston, including BrewMasters Craft Beer Festival in Galveston, movie screenings, Astros games, concerts, art events and more. We’ll be adding events to the calendar as the weekend gets closer, so be sure to check back.

- Sugar Land Skeeters vs Somerset Patriots at Constellation Field | Daily – The Skeeters host a seven-day home series against the Somerset Patriots from New Jersey. Tickets start at $8, but limited comped and discounted $6 tickets are available. 7:05pm Thursday and Friday; 6:05pm Saturday; 5:05pm Sunday; 7:05pm Monday.
- Dancin’ in the Street… Motown & More Revue at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Thursday to Sunday | FREE – This soul-filled event is playing throughout Labor Day weekend at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Celebrate 20 years of dancing and covers of timeless Motown classics. 8pm nightly.
- FLY Dance Company Concert and Fundraiser at the Barn | Friday and Saturday – Join the “Gentlemen of Hip Hop” for an elegant, lively, high spirited, comedic dance performance that’s fitting for all ages. While you’re at it, bid on items in the silent action. $15 in advance; $20 at the door. 8pm.
- BrewMasters Craft Beer Festival | Friday to Sunday – Tap into all things craft beer during this three day event at Moody Gardens Hotel. Events include The Galveston Brew Bash, BrewHaHa Grand Tasting, Beach, Brews & Bands and BrewLicious Brews & Foods Pairing. Tickets range from $12 to $185, depending on the event. 7pm Friday; 11:30am to 10pm Saturday; 5pm to 10pm Sunday.
- Houston Astros vs. Minnesota Twins at Minute Maid Park | Friday to Sunday – Cheer the ‘Stros to a victory over the Twins during a three game series at Minute Maid Park. Tickets start at $10, but you may find cheaper or better seats on the TicketNetwork resale site. 7:10pm Friday; 6:10pm Saturday; 1:10pm Sunday.
- Houston Symphony presents Music of the Beatles at Jones Hall | Friday to Sunday – Kick off the Houston Symphony’s season with a night dedicated to the Beatles. This performance at Jones Hall will bring back some of the band’s biggest hits. $25 to $140. 8pm.
- Amazing Houston Comic Con at the George R. Brown Convention Center | Friday to Sunday – Meet your favorite creators and celebrities while enjoying art, video games, costumes, family fun, and more during this three day event at George R. Brown Convention Center. Single day tickets $25 to $35; 3 day passes $60; VIP packages start at $150; kids 10 and under receive free admission with paid adult. 3pm to 8pm Friday; 10am to 7pm Saturday; 10am to 6pm Sunday.
- Dogfight at The Kaleidoscope | Friday through Sunday – Bayou City Theatrics produces this musical based on the 1991 film that starred River Phoenix and Lili Taylor. $35; limited discounted $17.50 tickets available. 8pm Friday and Saturday; 5pm Sunday.
- Labor Day Weekend at Waterway Square in The Woodlands | Saturday and Sunday | FREE to attend – Enjoy live music, strolling entertainment, face painting, an interactive graffiti art creation by Houston’s Aerosol Warfare, acrobatic and circus performances from Cirque La Vie and more family fun capped off by fireworks at 8:55pm. Picnic dinners encouraged. Event runs from 6pm to 9pm.
- Lend Me a Tenor at Houston Family Arts Center | Saturday and Sunday – The Tony-winning farcical comedy set at a 1934 gala fundraiser is filled with saucy innuendos, mistaken identities and slamming doors. $23: limited discounted $11.50 tickets available. 7:30pm Friday and Saturday; 3pm Sunday.
- Houston African Arts Festival at Bayou City Event Center | Saturday and Sunday | FREE – This event brings African culture to Houston through live music, dancing, poetry readings, food and activities. 10am to 8pm both days.
- ComedySportz Match at Holiday Inn Energy Corridor | Saturday and Sunday – Laugh out loud during this Whose Line is it Anyway-style improv competition show in the Energy Corridor. $18; limited $9 tickets available. 8pm.
- Final Days at Houston’s Public Swimming Pools | Daily – Dive into one or more of the city’s 37 public pools on the last day that they’re open until summer of 2016. Don’t forget your sunscreen. Times and locations vary.
- Final Days of Houston Restaurant Weeks 2015 | Daily – Dine out at some of Houston’s best restaurants to enjoy prix fixe brunch, lunch and dinner menus at special pricing. A portion of sales from each HRW menu benefits the Houston Food Bank. $20 to $45. Locations and times vary.

- Slipknot in Concert at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion – Rock out to music from heavy metal band Slipknot when their summer tour hits the stage at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Tickets start at $30, but you may find cheaper or better seats on the TicketNetwork resale site. 6:30pm.
- Ruckus, Ranson Bandits, American Swindle and Dead Man’s Ransom in Concert at House of Blues | Almost FREE – Take an southern rock and Americana folk rock show with four bands inspired by the likes of The Band, Steve Earle, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Mumford and Sons. $16.33; limited comped tickets available.
