Welcome in the Year of the Dragon at 25+ Lunar New Year festivals & celebrations in Greater Houston from Saturday, February 3 to Sunday, February 25, 2024.

In the Chinese zodiac, the year of the Dragon is upon us and for 2024 Lunar New Year, there will be plenty of parties and celebrations taking place across the Greater Houston area.

Week of Monday, January 29

  • Lunar New Year Celebration at The Woodlands Children’s Museum | Saturday, February 3 – Start the Year of the Dragon at a celebration in the Woodlands, complete with storytime, Chinese calligraphy, games and a performance from the Celestial Dragon Houston Lion Kings. $9 for ages 1 and up. 10am to 2pm.
  • 7th Annual Fried Rice Cook Off & Lunar New Year Celebration at West Alabama Ice House | Saturday, February 3 – Try a wide array of interpretations of fried rice, pulling from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, at this 7th annual cook-off in Montrose. Plus, try your hand at games to win a red envelope, enjoy face painting and money trees for the kiddos, a ping pong tournament, and more. $25. Noon to 5pm.
  • Lunar New Year Celebration at Post Houston | Sunday, February 4 | FREE – The Ho family of HBO’s House of Ho hosts this Lunar New Year fest with a full day of fun at the Downtown cultural hub. Start the day at noon with an Asian pop-up market serving goods and foods, plus games, arts and crafts and more; and enjoy lion dances throughout the day. Noon to 10pm.

Week of Monday, February 5

  • Laidback Luke: Lunar New Year at Noto Houston | Friday, February 9 – The East End nightclub hosts a Lunar New Year night with Laidback Luke taking over the decks. Come ring in the Year of the Dragon at midnight. $10 and up. 10pm.
  • Lunar New Year Celebration at Sunday Press at Hermann Park | Saturday, February 10 | FREE – The Hermann Park restaurant (formerly Ginger Kale) celebrates the Lunar New Year with lion dances from Soaring Phoenix overlooking the park’s lake. 10am to 11am.
  • 2024 Lunar New Year Festival: Year of the Dragon at Chinese Community Center of Houston | Saturday, February 10 | FREE – Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with the return of CCC’s annual Lunar New Year Festival, featuring a full day of family-friendly activities, local vendors, merch, Asian street eats and live cultural performances. 10am to 4pm.
  • Lunar New Year 2024 at Asia Society Texas Center | Saturday, February 10 | FREE – Welcome in the Year of the Dragon with cultural performances, arts and crafts activities and globally-inspired foods at Asia Society in the Museum District. Free to attend and enjoy the festival; performances by Huaxing Arts Group are $10. 10am to 4pm.
  • Texas Lunar Festival in Bellaire | Saturday, February 10 | FREE – This annual festival returns, featuring singing and dance performances, martial arts performances, vendors, food trucks and more in front of the Southern News Group Building on Bellaire Boulevard. 10:30am to 4:30pm.
  • Lunar New Year Celebration at Robinson-Westchase Neighborhood Library | Saturday, February 10 | FREE – Celebrate with fun festivities, Dragon dances, Tai Chi lesson, plus delicious food, Chinese storytime, crafts and more for all ages. 11am to 1:30pm.

  • Lunar New Year at Children’s Museum Houston | Saturday, February 10 – Explore Houston’s diverse Asian heritage with a day of Lunar New Year activities, lion dances, and a special performance by Houston Grand Opera about a little girl who needs help from animals of the Chinese zodiac to deliver a card to her grandmother. $17 for ages 1 and up. 11am to 3pm.
  • Lunar New Year Festival & Night Market at Market Square Park | Saturday, February 10 | FREE – The Downtown park space hosts this all-evening market with local artisans and food vendors, plus lion and dragon dance performances. 3pm to 9pm.
  • Lion Dances & Lunar New Year Celebration at Hughie’s | Saturday, February 10 | No Cover – The North Main location of the Vietnamese tavern and grill celebrates Lunar New Year with a lion dance and red envelopes at 3:30pm. In case you miss that one, the West 18th Street location gets into the spirit an hour later at 4:30pm.
  • Lunar New Year Banquet at Fung’s Kitchen | Saturday, February 10 – This eight-course dinner with wine and beer celebrates the Year of the Dragon with dances and traditional Chinese New Year attire. Funds raised go toward pediatric brain cancer research in honor of Nicole Lee and Lara Pasi. $150. 6:30pm to 10pm.
  • Lunar Dance Festival 6 at Warehouse Live Midtown | Saturday, February 10 – Flosstradamus returns to Houston for another edition of the annual EDM Lunar New Year celebration. $15 and up. 10pm.
  • Otaku Lunar New Year Food & Anime Festival at Karbach Brewing Co. | Saturday, February 10 & Sunday, February 11 | FREE – More than 100 vendors will set up for two days at the Spring Branch brewery, offering up all manner of goods and gourmet foods, along with lion dances, anime cosplay and artists, a sumo tournament, and more. Saturday noon to 10pm; Sunday noon to 4pm.
  • Asia Society Lunar New Year at the Galleria | Saturday, February 10 & Sunday, February 11 | FREE – Across two weekends, Asia Society brings Lunar New Year festivities to the shopping mecca of Houston. Join in the fun with arts and crafts, games and festive performances for the whole family, located on Level One between Nordstrom and Macy’s. Times vary.

  • Lunar New Year Market at M-K-T | Sunday, February 11 | FREE – The Heights shopping and dining hub hosts a celebration with a lion and dragon parade, red envelopes for all, free beer for the adults, and a local vendor market, plus a plant swap. 11am to 5pm.
  • Lunar New Year Lion Dance at Traveler’s Table | Sunday, February 11 | No Cover – The globally inspired restaurant in Montrose serves up a delicious brunch with a lion dance in the late morning. 11:30am.
  • Lunar New Year at Eastern Glades | Sunday, February 11 | FREE – The Memorial Park greenspace hosts an open-to-all festive celebration that features live performances by the Unity Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe. 4pm to 6pm.
  • Lunar New Year Celebration at Katy Asian Town | Sunday, February 11 | FREE – This family-friendly fest in Katy celebrates the Year of the Dragon with Soaring Phoenix Lion Dancers, plus caricature fun, balloon art, face painting and more. 4pm to 7pm.
  • Lunar New Year at Discovery Green | Sunday, February 11 | FREE – Festivities return to Downtown with an evening of dances from Lee’s Golden Dragon, crafts and food vendors to help the whole family celebrate Lunar New Year. 5pm to 7pm.

Week of Monday, February 12

  • Lunar New Year Celebration: Houston Rockets vs. New York Knicks at Toyota Center | Monday, February 12 – Celebrate the Year of the Dragon with the Rockets, featuring special in-game entertainment that marks the Chinese New Year. $15 and up. 7pm.
  • 2024 Lunar New Year Festival at Viet Hoa Center | Saturday, February 17 & Sunday, February 18 | FREE – Celebrate the Lunar New Year with back-to-back days of festivities, including appearances by city officials, red envelope ceremonies, dancing and music, lion dance performances, and much more. 10:30am to 6pm.
  • Asia Society Lunar New Year at the Galleria | Saturday, February 17 & Sunday, February 18 | FREE – Asia Society’s last weekend at the Galleria will offer free arts and crafts, games and festive performances for late celebrations of Lunar New Year. Located on Level One between Nordstrom and Macy’s. Noon to 5pm.

Week of Monday, February 19

  • Pearland Lunar New Year Festival at Pearland Recreation Center | Saturday, February 24 | FREE – Community organizations and small businesses come together for a day of traditional Asian culture, featuring family arts and crafts, live music, fun activities and food concessions on-site. 11am to 3pm.
  • Have A Nice Day Lunar New Year Celebration at the Ion | Saturday, February 24 | FREE – The annual fest returns to the Ion, with an evening of local vendor shopping, lion dances, a red envelope giveaway, music and more. Complimentary beverages from Johnnie Walker for those 21 and up. 4pm to 8pm.
  • 2024 Lunar New Year at No Label Brewing Co. | Sunday, February 25 | FREE – The Katy brewery celebrates the Year of the Dragon with a full day of family fun. Catch lion dances, a wide array of delicious food vendors, and exclusive Lunar New Year merch. Noon to 8pm.
