- Houston Grand Opera presents Monkey & Francine in the City of Tigers at Miller Outdoor Theatre | Tuesday, April 11 to Thursday, April 13 | FREE – In this HGO-commissioned work, Monkey and his super-smart sister Francine must get over their sibling rivalry and work together to defeat hungry crocodiles and the fierce Lord of Tigers. - The Sound of One Hand Clapping: Traditional Japanese Instruments at Museum of Fine Arts Houston | Thursday, April 13 | FREE – This concert features Stan Richardson performing on the shakuhachi within the museum’s galleries, inspired by the recently unveiled exhibition, None Whatsoever: Zen Paintings from the Glitter-Yellen Collection. 6:30pm.
- 51st Annual BakerShake presents The Taming of the Shrew at Rice University’s Baker College | Friday, April 14 to Sunday, April 16 – In Baker College’s latest outing of this annual celebration of Shakespeare, students present the Bard’s comedy about men, women and marriage. $8 and up. 7:30pm.
- Houston Symphony presents Chris Botti at Jones Hall | Friday, April 14 to Sunday, April 16 – The world-renowned, Grammy-winning trumpeter joins the Symphony in concert. $54 and up. Times vary.
- Sherlock Holmes & the Case of the Jersey Lily at Alley Theatre | Friday, April 14 | Ongoing – The incomparable detective is back in a case involving a sinister conspiracy, brought to his attention by socialite Lillie Langtry (aka The Jersey Lily). $34 and up. Times vary.
- DaCamera presents Osvaldo Golijov’s Falling Out of Time at Hobby Center | Saturday, April 15 & Sunday, April 16 – Golijov drew inspiration for his work from Israeli author David Grossman’s Falling Out of Time, a tale of grief and a journey to acceptance. $17.50 and up. Times vary.
- Indian Performing Arts Samskriti: Krishnaya Tubhyam Namaha at MATCH | Sunday, April 16 – This dance performance of Krishnaya Tubhyam Namaha is a thematic presentation of stories about the many facets of Krishna. Mahati Kanan, the disciple and grand niece of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, leads the performance. $20 and up. 4pm.
Final Performances This Week
The riveting, must-see Sanctuary City closes at Spring Street on Saturday, April 15; and on Sunday, final curtain draws on Clyde’s at Ensemble Theatre, Legally Blonde at Hobby Center, and The Book of Mary at MATCH.
