- TUTS presents South Pacific at Hobby Center | Daily; closes Sunday, February 20 – This enduring Rodgers & Hammerstein musical proves its continued timeliness, telling the story of a group of U.S. servicemen and women on a tropical South Pacific island, who find they cannot escape the prejudices they didn’t know they had. Against the backdrop of World War II, they and the island’s residents find romance, danger and heartbreak, all set to some of musical theater’s most beloved songs. Starts at $40, but you may find cheaper, better, or hard-to-get seats on the online resale network. Dates and times vary.
- 111th Celebration of Mardi Gras! Galveston | Daily; opens Friday, February 18 – Over 3 million beads will be thrown at Texas’ largest Mardi Gras celebration, with the lineup of festivities including elaborate parades, headliner performances and concerts, balcony parties, masked balls, an official 5K run, family events, and plenty of feasting across two weekends and on Fat Tuesday, March 1. Ticket prices for party passes, balcony tickets, and general admission vary. Times vary.
- Opening Reception for New Exhibitions at Art League Houston | Friday, February 18 | FREE – This outdoor reception in Art League’s Sculpture Garden welcomes four new exhibitions to the Montrose Boulevard gallery; Brian Ellison’s Backbone presents video interviews, photographs, performances and artifacts that celebrate Black grandmothers; In & Out from Bradley Kerl plays with the idea of his vibrant, stylized paintings as a portal or window; Kathy Drago’s Late offers nearly 100 portraits of women, aged 75 and up, that reflects on aging and the wisdom accumulated across the subjects’ lifetimes; and A Way [A Will] by Ronald Llewellyn Jones takes residence in the sculpture garden, exploring the paths of life we take as members in a global society, along with all the hidden aspects, costs and glass ceilings we encounter along the way. 6pm to 8pm.
- Society for the Performing Arts presents Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater at Jones Hall | Friday, February 18 & Saturday, February 19 – One of the country’s pre-eminent dance companies comes to Houston, showcasing its signature style with energy and grace. The company that forever changed American dance will present its masterpiece, “Revelations.” $40 and up. Friday 7:30pm; Saturday 2pm and 7:30pm.
- Snarky Puppy in Concert at Warehouse Live | Friday, February 18 – The genre-bending Texas band heads to EaDo for a night of jazz fusion and improvised jams, pulling from their Grammy-winning catalog. $33 and up. 8pm.
- Me, Myself & Shirley at Hobby Center | Friday, February 18 & Saturday, February 19 – Known for her iconic television role as Shirley Feeney in Laverne & Shirley, actress and comedian Cindy Williams brings hilarious behind-the-scenes insights to the stage at Hobby Center for an intimate evening of laughs and stories. $35 and up, but you may find better or cheaper seats using the TicketNetwork online marketplace. Friday 8pm; Saturday 2pm and 8pm.
- 20th Anniversary Rockets Run at Toyota Center | Saturday, February 19 – Benefiting Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, the family-friendly casual Rockets Run is offered in 2-mile, 5K and Kids K increments, beginning outside Toyota Center and ending across half-court. Participants will receive a ticket voucher for a Rockets game, a t-shirt and entry to a post-race party. Registration starts at $40. 7:30am.
- Mardi Gras Celebration at Kemah Boardwalk | Saturday, February 19 | FREE – Head down to the boardwalk and enjoy an all-day family-friendly celebration with music on the Plaza Stage from cover bands 3 Spot 12 and Flashpoint, plus kids crafts and a Yachty Gras boat parade at 7pm. Noon to 8pm.
- Muddy Trails 5K at Rob Fleming Park in the Woodlands | Saturday, February 19 – The 2022 edition of this Woodlands run event sends runners through the beautiful George Mitchell Nature Preserve on a 5K course, ending with a post-race party complete with live Zydeco tunes and the Muddy Bowl Crawfish Cook-Off. $35. 3pm.
- George Ranch Rodeo at George Ranch Historical Park | Saturday, February 19 – For more than 100 years, Black cowboys played an essential role in Fort Bend County ranching and this rodeo celebrates that heritage. Families can get in touch with their inner cowboy or cowgirl with live entertainment, kids activities, craft and food booths, a live rodeo and more. $20; $10 for ages 3 to 12. 4pm to 9:30pm.
- Elle King in Concert at Warehouse Live | Saturday, February 19 – The Americana singer-songwriter stops by Warehouse while on her Drunk And I Don’t Want to Go Home tour, named for her recent single release that features country artist Miranda Lambert. $30 and up. 8pm.
- Rodeo Roundup Market at Memorial City Mall | Sunday, February 20 | No Cover – Head over to an outdoor market that aims to get you rodeo ready for the upcoming festivities later this month. Enjoy live music, face painting, a petting zoo and food trucks while you shop jewelry, apparel and more. 10am to 2pm.
- DaCamera presents Monochromatic Light (Afterlife) at Rothko Chapel | Sunday, February 20 – This world premiere composition by composer Tyshawn Sorey commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Rothko Chapel. Sorey’s composition was inspired by Morton Feldman’s “Rothko Chapel,” which premiered at the chapel in 1972. Sorey will conduct his work, which features the Houston Chamber Choir, Kim Kashkashian on viola, Steven Schick on percussion and Sarah Rothenberg on celesta. $30. 3pm.
- Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup & Best Bites Competition at NRG Park | Sunday, February 20 – Gourmet foods and over 450 award-winning wines are in the lineup at the Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup & Best Bites Competition. Guests will have the opportunity to sample signature dishes from approximately 100 of the area’s top restaurants and culinary institutions, and vote for their favorites in the Best Bites Competition. General admission tickets are $165, with reserved and premium tables available. 6:30pm.
- Wale in Concert at House of Blues | Sunday, February 20 – The rapper and familiar face on the Billboard Hot 100 comes to Downtown’s House of Blues while touring his October 2021 release, Folarin II. $30 and up. 8pm.
