In our Where to Brunch series, we search Greater Houston’s vast array of neighborhoods and communities for the very best brunch offerings. Originally published in 2017, we are now refreshing, updating, and adding to this series, including new neighborhoods and destinations.
In the Northwest corridor of the 610 Loop, you’ll find the largely residential neighborhoods of Lazybrook and Timbergrove. The area was originally settled by German farmers in the late 1800s, and today you’ll find original bungalows and modest cottages, parks and retailers, and some pretty excellent brunch options.
Note: For the purposes of this list, the Lazybrook and Timbergrove area is defined by this map.
Where to Brunch in Lazybrook & Timbergrove
- Cactus Cove Bar & Grill – Hit this Texas-style bar and grill from the Creek Group to go brunchin’ on big ole barbacoa burritos, chicken-fried steak and eggs, fiery migas, and buttermilk flapjacks. Even the kiddos can get down, with options from pancake and sausage to a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit sammich. Saturday and Sunday 10am to 2pm. Click here for directions.
- Down the Street – This hip neighborhood bar and eatery sits just a few blocks south of the Lazybrook and Timbergrove border. Hit the pup-friendly patio to dig into biscuits and gravy, brisket or sweet potato hash, jumbo lump crab stuffed deep-dish quiche, crème brulee French toast, and BLT panini alongside mimosas and sangria by the glass or carafe. - Karbach Brewery – One of Houston’s hottest breweries is right off Karbach Street on the west side of 290. Head there and you’ll find a bustling biergarten, brewery, and restaurant where you can sip all-star bevies like the Hopadillo IPA, Love Street Kolsch Blonde, and spicy Hella Chella; and enjoy eats from Korean fried chicken to beer-paired Brewmaster burgers. - Hughie’s Tavern – While there is no specific brunch menu, adding a fried egg to Vietnamese and tavern-style eats like banh mi, vermicelli bowls, burgers, and chicken-fried steak feels pretty brunchy to us. Wash it all down with a few tasty craft brews. Monday through Saturday opens at 11am; closed Sundays. Click here for directions.
- Tia Maria’s – Breakfast runs all day at this vintage strip center joint. Brunch on huevos rancheros, Mexican omelets, and huevos con chorizo, all served with rice, refried beans, and scratch-made tortillas (all for a super wallet-friendly price). Opens at 11am daily. Click here for directions.
