Throw back a pint at a beer bar known for its dog-friendly, outdoor picnic table patio seating at the West Alabama Ice House.

Located in the heart of Montrose at the eponymous cross streets of West Alabama near Hazard, this neighborhood haunt has become an area favorite for its no-frills, straightforward ice house approach.

In traditional ice house fashion, the bar strictly serves beer, wine, cider, and if you’re in need of something non-alcoholic, they also have bottled water and soft drinks available.

Worried about the weather? Though the bar is outdoors, a large portion of the establishment has a roof over it, so rain is no problem.

During the winter, WAIH wraps the bar in a plastic bubble and put out radiant heaters for guests to stay nice and toasty. During the summer, patio-goers can lounge in comfort with the help of the bar’s misting fan system.

Games at West Alabama Ice House

If you’re looking to get your game on, West Alabama Ice House provides billiards ($1 per game), Golden Tee ($4 to 7 per game), a basketball hoop, cornhole, ping-pong, playing cards, and dominoes.

Aside from the first two noted paid games, all others are free of charge –just give the bartender your ID for security and play away.

Food Nearby

The Ice House itself does not sell food. However, they regularly host a rotating selection of food trucks on their property.

In addition, the ever popular Tacos Tierra Caliente food truck is permanently parked right across the street.

Ice House patrons can purchase food at these establishments or bring in their own food to dine at the bar’s picnic tables.

Before You Visit

Visitors should note, during limited hours guests under the age of 21 are welcome at the West Alabama Ice House, so long as it is before dark and they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Looking to bring Rover? WAIH only asks that you keep your dog on a leash at all times. Pet owners can rest assured knowing that water is strategically placed around the property for the pups, too.
